Clearview Cinemas Movie Times Hoboken NJNow showing in Hoboken is Star Trek Into Darkness,, the latest in the ongoing science fiction space series. This film is also available in 3D.

Here’s the latest set of trouble these guys find themselves in: “Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. Propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.”

The movie is getting mostly positive reviews, such as: “Adrenaline-fueled and highly entertaining, filled with feverish, fast-paced excitement and suspense. Live long and prosper!”

However, some critics see through how technologically marvelous it is and say: “There’s something especially disconcerting about Into Darkness’s hollowness, given the visibly provocative content that, in true Trek fashion, is meant to put us in mind of our precarious present.”

Clearview Cinemas Movie Times Hoboken NJDebuting in Hoboken is The Great Gatsby, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and is available in standard format as well as 3D.

Most of you already know the premise of this modern cinematic adaptation of the book you probably read in High School: “A Midwestern war veteran finds himself drawn to the past and lifestyle of his millionaire neighbor.”

Not into movies that depict this era in America, so I doubt I’ll ever watch this movie. The Great Gatsby got mediocre reviews for the most part, with critics pretty much divided down the middle.

Negatively: “Yet another screen version of the 1925 novel where style trumps substance, leaving us yearning for some characters who can engage our emotions.”

Positively: “So what if it’s not literally “The Great American novel”? DiCaprio gives the best performance of his career, and he and the movie “get” Gatsby.”

Clearview Cinemas Movie Times Hoboken NJBesides Iron Man 3 – which sounds like a worn out money making machine movie series, another “new” movie option for Saturday night in Hoboken: Oblivion, starting Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman.

The plot in this futuristic flick is as such: “A veteran assigned to extract Earth’s remaining resources begins to question what he knows about his mission and himself.”

I watched the trailer below – and I couldn’t make sense of what it was all about. Maybe that’s a symptom of not watching TV and other crap for the past two years. Who knows.

But for those who want a quick snapshot of what others are saying about Oblivion:

Negatively: “Was Cruise trying to beat out fellow Scientologist John Travolta for the honor of starring in the dumbest sci-fi epic ever?”

(Somewhat) Positively: “The story eventually devolves into a grab bag of sci-fi tropes but, as with so many other Cruise productions, the sheer scale of everything is so mind-numbing that you may not notice.”

Clearview Cinemas Movie Times Hoboken NJA new movie option for Saturday night in Hoboken: Pain & Gain.

The synopsis is quite simple: “A trio of bodybuilders in Florida get caught up in an extortion ring and a kidnapping scheme that goes terribly wrong.”

The morals, according to Hoboken411 are quite wrong, actually. This is the real review: A bunch of steroid-injecting Hollywood actors portraying some outlandish lifestyle to make “dreamers” out of the idiot audience that pays exorbitant fees to watch such garbage. End of review.

However, here is what the rest of the idiosphere people are saying:

Negatively: “A ham-fisted, thick-skulled comic caper about bodybuilders-turned-criminals which, like its three protagonists, fully lives down to its own potential.”

Positively: “With three fantastic lead performances and a healthy dose of style, those who can appreciate an action-packed black comedy will savor the ride.”

Clearview Cinemas Movie Times Hoboken NJAn interesting movie option for Saturday night (“420″) in Hoboken: Cheech & Chong’s Animated Movie.

This movie is only showing briefly (tomorrow night at 10pm) – then available for purchase on DVD or Blu-Ray on April 23rd (if you’re too embarrassed to be caught in public watching it.)

Apparently – this animated version of Cheech and Chong doesn’t really add any new slant to the original material – so it may suit the older generation who grew up enjoying the schtick. Got generally tepid reviews. Are you a stoner?

Although one review I found was upbeat about it: “Hilarious Great to have these dudes back. Haven’t lost a step. And it is cool I can watch this with my kid and he enjoys it too.”

Clearview Cinemas Movie Times Hoboken NJOne of the three new flicks in the movie lineup starting this week is horror parody Scary Movie 5.

“A couple begins to experience some unusual activity after bringing their newborn son home from the hospital. With the help of home-surveillance cameras and a team of experts, they learn they’re being stalked by a nefarious demon.”

Not going to get into critic reviews about this 5th iteration of a very tired movie series, but I gather with DVD sales later this summer, they’ll probably still make a modest profit. My guess is that they wrapped this whole production up in a month or less. Although one reviewer said this was “An unbelievably lazy and witless spoof that proves insulting to the intelligence of its audience in myriad ways,” which means you can bet it won’t last more than a week or two here in Hoboken.

And keeping with tradition, another Philippine move release this week: It takes a Man and a Woman, which might be more fulfilling than the Scary Movie!
