    7/29/2008:

No, it wasn’t kids walking on cars, it was a 1990 Red Chevy Blazer that just got stolen. Police are looking for the truck now, as it was said to be heading southbound (possibly to the projects, or heading back to Jersey City or Newark.) It was stolen near 5th and Monroe, near Ottomonelli’s Liquors.

Ok, not the fanciest car in the world, but it’s still someone’s mode of transportation, and may be required for them to get to work!

Update: As I type this, they recovered the vehicle near.. 5th and Jackson. Haha real far away.. and the KEYS were left in the ignition. Dope! Forget what I said above. Some people deserve to have their stuff taken.

Joy ride for some Juvies I guess.

    7/28/2008:

Heard this on the Live Hoboken Police and Fire Scanner moments ago: “A caller reports kids jumping and walking on cars near 308 Monroe St…” Then later on “now in front of 311 Monroe…”

Radio car 114 responds, and states “Nothing going on here… just kids.. walking,” and goes back into service.

    hoboken-kids-jumping-on-cars-308-monroe.jpg

I normally don’t post every single call like this I hear, but something bugged me about it.

OK, the officer doesn’t personally WITNESS the kids possibly damaging cars, but what about the caller that did? Do they not have any credibility? What if these kids dented, damaged several vehicles before the officer arrived? Who’s going to be responsible for that?

Did the officer just look past this because they didn’t want to “complicate” the situation? I.e., get the caller/witness to specify which cars, inspect said cars, fill out paperwork, create a report, etc?

Sure, walking on cars may be consider “minor” in the grand scheme of things, but do you think that it’s OK to just “let it go?” Who’s teaching these delinquents a lesson?

    Grrrr.

    7/20/2008:

Seems like thievery might be a good option for criminals while cops are making sure the St. Ann’s Feast is safe and sound.

A witness called HPD indicating that they saw a white male, t-shirt and black fanny pack entering at least two vehicles near 10th and Clinton streets. Police are investigating now, and haven’t come up with a suspect. If you’re parked in the area, you might want to just double-check your car just in case.

    7/14/2008:

Reported over the Live Hoboken Police and Fire Scanner:

“An off-duty officer spotted a Black male, white t-shirt, blue jean-shorts, blue hat w/white stripes in possession of a hand gun. The man is now heading westbound on 9th Street, and the officer retrieved the gun.”

    They’ve apprehended the man now, near 402 9th street…

Nice to be near kids with a gun!

This time at the downtown CVS. As heard on the Live Hoboken Police and Fire Scanner:

“An employee was assaulted by a black man wearing a bandana… may possibly still be in the store…”

    7/2/2008:

I missed this one due to an unexpected blissful slumber, but one 411 reader reported a crime (and possible car-jacking) involving a handgun over near 5th street early this morning):

“Tuned in kind of late….5th street, 2 women. Blackberries, 2 wallets taken by 2 males wearing blue jeans, thin, black shirts and silver gun. Took off westbound.”

Been slacking on the crime-map as of late…

    6/20/2008:

From a Hoboken411 reader who was burglarized this week:

    hoboken-burglaries-adams-street.jpg

    Garden Street Burglary

“I just wanted to throw this out there because it sounds strikingly similar to a post by a reader on 2/6/08 from 2nd and Adams.

My apartment was robbed on June 18. Just like the other reader, my unit’s door was opened using a crowbar or something similar. Taken was my large, flat-screen TV, satellite radio receiver, laptop computer, iPod Nano, cufflinks, a watch, and a strongbox. My Sentry strongbox was purchased to keep things safe in the event of a fire but obviously someone could just walk away with it and try to open it later on. In that were a bunch of vital papers confirming my identity, college and high school rings and other insignificants that were near and dear to me. They also took my bedroom comforter, which was beige and black and probably just used it to wrap up the stolen goods.

Someone entered the building between 6:30am and 9:30pm (hours I was at work). It probably happened late morning, according to the HPD. The front door to our building has a great lock that has only 1 design flaw, the door must be closed! We’ve been having problems with the door sticking lately and chances are someone left without closing the door completely behind them. I feel that I was targeted specifically because there are 7 other units in my building and no one else was hit. Our building has had some construction work done within the last few months and although I hate pointing fingers, it seems that maybe someone cased the joint then. But then again, maybe they just got lucky.

I am reaching out to the community to see if anyone else has had a similar burglary since the one in February on Adams. It may be the same person or it could be just a coincidence. If anyone sees anything I described above on the street or with a fence, I’d appreciate it if you responded to this post or contacted Hoboken411, if they would offer their services.

Seeing as Garden Street is somewhat busy so I am hoping someone saw something. Chances are they looked like a couple of movers doing things in a hurry so people probably paid little attention to them. But please, if you saw someone moving a TV on Garden Street between 8th and 9th on Wednesday, June 18, please let me know. Or if you come across a tossed strongbox on the street, I’d appreciate you coming forward. Rewards will be offered. The HPD is doing their part as well. Thanks.”
