Eli Manning Way?

06

February

2/6/2008:

I heard about this yesterday, but forgot to post it.

The Giants Football Blog mentioned that Mayor Roberts and the City were considering naming a street after Eli Manning, or the Giants, or something along those lines.

I’m ecstatic the Giants won the best Super Bowl ever, but does Eli deserve a street named after him? In Hoboken?

What are your thoughts? I’ve heard various opinions ranging from: “He’s not a permanent resident here” to “We have bigger problems to worry about” to “Why not, what harm can it cause?”

Eli Drive has a nice ring to it

Mayor David Roberts of Hoboken, N.J., said that the city is kicking around the idea of renaming a city street after New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning, a Hoboken resident.

But residents are divided on the idea, with some saying Manning’s leading one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history and being named MVP doesn’t justify such an action.

“Kudos to him, but it’s not worth renaming the street,” Marcia Pribylovsky said.

Kinga Burke, a resident in the building where Manning lives, was also opposed.

“Just because he lives in town?” she said. “I think it’s too much, it’s ridiculous. He’s not a historical person.”

Here’s another Super Bowl parade photo gallery Hoboken411 reader Jim sent me this afternoon.

Taken from the windows of his office overlooking the parade route. Must be fun to toss out all those confidential shredded documents! Thanks, Jim!

    1/28/2008:

Seeing this is Super Bowl week, and we’ve already discussed the Patriots today, one anti-fan has compiled a list of 16 reasons to root against the Pats.

From the ways they’ve cheated, to the cheap shots they’ve took, this list should push you over the edge if you’re currently on the fence in terms of who to root for.

I personally didn’t need the list, since I’m a Giants fan already, but some of these made my skin crawl.

Such as this horrific YouTube video. Watch at your own risk:

#16: This woman is a Patriots fan

And how Tom Brady dated this train-wreck of a celeb:

#15: Brady once dated Tara Reid

Ever since McSwiggan’s burnt to a crisp, one reader is wondering where the fans of the Pats will now congregate. Has a new bar been designated yet?

    1/27/2008:

Who else can’t wait till next Sunday? Hopefully it won’t be a boring blowout.

    From Newsday:

    Eli Manning better off-Broadway

hoboken-eli-manning-nfl-giants.jpgAt no point this week will Eli Manning grab himself a cold one, kick back in a lounge chair at poolside and announce how his team is guaranteed to shock Football America come next Sunday.

First of all, that’s not his personality, and besides, some other quarterback has been there and done that already.

But that other quarterback, nearly 40 years after his famous prediction, came up with another the other day.

“Eli and the Giants can do it, I’m telling you,” Joe Namath said.

Can they? Well, if anyone has a feel for this sort of thing, it’s Namath. Eli and the Giants will arrive in Arizona Monday the same as Namath and the Jets did in Miami in 1969. The'’ll be bracing to fight tremendous odds and an outstanding opponent. The New England Patriots, with their perfect record, genius coach and loaded offense, are equipped to pummel the Giants and keep suspense from entering Super Bowl XLII. In many ways, these Patriots look a lot like the formidable Baltimore Colts of 1969, who were coached by Don Shula and widely expected to thump Namath and the Jets, although we know how that turned out.

So once again, a lightly-regarded New York team, led by a rising young quarterback, finds itself up against the world, and there aren’t many who see a major upset brewing, other than a New York icon who saw something four decades ago.

“I’ve got nothing against New England,” Namath said. “But this will be the first time I’ll be pulling for an NFC team. I like what I’ve seen from Eli and the Giants.”

In case any of you were looking, the Empire State Building was proudly showing NY Giants colors.

Perhaps this was the good luck charm that was needed for the Giants to beat the Green Bay Packers today?

    Final: NE 38 NY 35

The Giants hung in there, but let it slip in the fourth quarter. Congratulations to the Patriots on the first ever undefeated 16-0 regular NFL season!

    12/29/2007:

Halftime: Much to my surprise, the Giants are playing a great game, and lead the New England Patriots through two quarters 21-16!

Will they be able keep pace in the 2nd half? Or will the Pats re-group and come out on fire in the third quarter?

    nfl-giants-patriots-december-29-2007.jpg

    12/27/2007:

As most of you may know, the New England Patriots will attempt to become the first every NFL team to complete a regular season undefeated at 16-0. They’ve already set a record by being the first time to reach the 15-0 mark during the regular season.

This Saturday, the Patriots will be facing our own NY Giants in the last game of the season. Both teams have already made the playoffs. It’s been said that the Giants will rest many of their starters in preparation for the (more important) wild card game next week against Tampa Bay (NE has a bye week,) but New England may keep a majority of their starters in the game to ensure the perfect regular season.

The game was regularly scheduled to be shown exclusively on the NFL Network (outside of the Boston & NYC metro areas - which show regional games on local TV,) but they decided at the last minute to also simulcast the game on both NBC and CBS. This means, for those that have the NFL Network (myself included,) that this game may be shown on four channels simultaneously!

I personally think the Giants will get smashed, but you never know! Will they preserve their players, or try to play spoiler?

What do you think the final outcome will be?
