Holi Moli at Whiskey Bar

13

August

8/13/2008 Update:

HoliMoli is playing again tonight at 8:30pm.

2/14/2008:

Would you check this band out based on their influences? If interested, come down to the Whiskey Bar and hear their vibe!

holi-moli-hoboken-whiskey-bar.jpg

hoboken-holi-moli-logo.jpg“If the Beatles, AC/DC and The Clash got into a fight, they’d probably sound a lot like HoliMoli. Their classic rock inspired armada of power chords creates the perfect blend of edgy rebellion and sophisticated musicianship. Behind the music lies the two main creative forces, Johnny Cajigas and Billy Golden. The two frontmen share duties as singers, guitarists, bassists and songwriters, although they receive musical assistance from session musicians including drummers, keyboardists, and even trumpeters. Experience HoliMoli for yourself when they play Hoboken’s Whiskey Bar this Sunday, February 17th at 9:00pm as part of Whiskey Bar’s President’s Day Weekend Bash.

Accurately titled, HoliMoli is the product of two musicians who spent years playing with various bands in bars and clubs throughout the tri-state area, recording demos, etc. However, their paths were destined to cross when Cajigas and Golden met and realized they shared similar talents, ambitions, and influences, including Van Halen, Kiss and Black Sabbath, among others. Calling themselves HoliMoli, they recorded and recently released their debut album What I Think of You in 2007. The album clearly shows their broad musical styles ranging from punk/new wave sound of the albums tilte track to the traditional heavy rocker, “Want Love”. Soon after their album’s released, destiny would strike again when through a mutual friend, HoliMoli hooked up with their newest member, a life-long Hobokenite and heavy-hitter behind the drum kit, George Inhulsen.

The Whiskey Bar is located at 125 Washington Street. Tickets are just $5.00 at the door and the bash is set to kick off promptly at 9:00 pm. For more information visit myspace.com/holimolimusic. HoliMoli’s cd is available at cdbaby.com/holimoli.”

  • All Points West Festival

    09

    August

    8/9/2008 Update:

Running Hoboken411 is very difficult, and when I finally get a chance to take a break, leaving town for a few days is my best bet. Thus, the difficult decision to go down to the shore rather than attend this weekend’s All Points West Festival in Jersey City. (I’ve seen Radiohead a bunch of times already…)

Living vicariously via YouTube, here’s Radiohead’s performance of “Everything in its right place” from last night 8/8/08.

Did anyone attend the festival yet?

    5/17/2008 Update:

While Radiohead is still one of my favorite acts, it seems as if the other “rumored” artists that were possibly playing has lost it’s luster to me! No more Bjork, Strokes or LCD Soundsystem, amongst others.

What do you think of the rest of the sub-headers for this summers big Hudson County Event?

  • Hoboken’s Mere on Olympic Soundtrack!

    28

    July

    7/28/2008:

Great news for one of Hoboken’s favorite local bands, Mere!

They were recently selected to be a part of the AT&T/ NBC Team USA Olympic Soundtrack with 3 Doors Down, Nelly, Sheryl Crow, Queen Latifah and other big names. This is huge for them because we are the only unsigned band on the soundtrack.

“The powerful, hook-oriented music of Mere will grab you. This five-piece rock ‘n’ roll band based out of Hoboken, NJ, offers explosive performances and a distinctly American sound infused with traces of icons like Coldplay and U2.

The band’s new album, Switches and Dials, was released to rave reviews and strong initial sales, selling out their first printing within one week. The band’s evocative melodies have also attracted the attention of television and film producers, and Mere’s music has been licensed by Grey’s Anatomy, The Hills, Haier Electronics and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition/Sears among others.

Mere has shared the stage with international acts such as INXS, Seven Mary Three, OK Go, OAR, Oasis and The Black Crowes.”

    Hudson Rail Company rocks Hoboken

“This is a quick reminder that we are playing this coming Thursday, June 26th at 9:00 at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, NJ (Washington/11th St).

This legendary venue has been the host to such greats as REM, Beck, Wilco, Oasis, Nirvana, Modest Mouse, etc. and we are really looking forward to playing this show- along with The Embracers and The Maurice Davis Band.

    5/30/2008:

As you know, there was a disastrous earthquake in China which killed nearly 70,000 people (and you think you have problems?)

The Fuzzy Lemons will be performing at GoldHawk on Sunday, June 1st to raise money for the Red Cross China earthquake relief fund.

Lemon Aid: Red Cross relief benefit

    hoboken-goldhawk-fuzzy-lemons-lemon-aid.gif

“On May 12, a powerful earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale struck Sichuan province in southwestern China, killing thousands of people. The American Red Cross is working with its partners in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, including the Red Cross Society of China, and other partners to assist those affected by this disaster.

The Fuzzy Lemons’ mission is to rock out, have fun, and be a force for good in the world. News of the devastation in China has prompted us to organize two shows to benefit the Red Cross China Earthquake Relief Fund, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Red Cross.

Please help out us by purchasing tickets for this show. Tickets are $10 per person (adults & children must have a ticket), and we’ll be playing two shows on Sunday, June 1st.

100% of profits go to the Red Cross. Our goal is to raise $1,600!”

    5/30/2008:

While taking a short break over at Goldhawk earlier this week, I had the pleasure of meeting Lloyd Gold of Lloyd United (it was open mic night.)

    lloyd-united-hoboken.jpg

He was outside tuning his ukulele, and I was interested in the sound. We got into some impromptu beat-box jams, then he even played Stairway to Heaven.. It’s a neat sound for sure!

“Lloyd United is a refined mixture of the following cultural accretion: Brit-pop, Sun Sessions, Disco, Irish pub anthems, Lord Byron, Aesthecism and Norse Mythology. They have psychedelic, wah-wah-drenched ukulele riffs, the likes of which have never reverberated through the halls of rock history.”

They’re playing at Maxwell’s tomorrow night at 8:30, along with Tall Days, Walking Lights and The Fave. $8 at the door.

    Listen to “Lord Byron” below.

They’ll also be appearing on June 11th at the Block Island Music Festival.

    5/8/2008:

I missed The Fave at the Arts & Music Festival last weekend (you try carrying a 15lb camera rig on your shoulder for three hours), but I heard they were pretty good!

Record release show at Maxwell’s 5/31

Jaime from The Fave sent me this quick note:

“Hey 411, we are a local band from Hoboken called The Fave and we are having a record release show at Maxwells 5/31. Our new album “Tomorrow’s June” will be available on itunes, napster, Tunes, and many other music locations. We played the Hoboken Arts & Music Festival this past Sunday!

We would be really excited to be featured on the website. Thanks for your time!”

So here’s a couple tracks you can listen to. “Let it out,” from their new album “Tomorrow’s June.” And another song from last year called “Always Live!”
