Do cops kill doughnuts? Really?

Where is this cops kill doughnuts sign in Hoboken?

Besides this being a one of the regular Hoboken where is this? entries, it brings up a valid question. As you can see, a “creative” individual parodied Krispy Kreme doughnuts with a “Cops Kill Doughnuts” message. This is obviously riding on the long-time myth that all cops are lazy, and are always seen in a donut shop somewhere wasting time.

For at least a few generations, the same tired message has been repeated over and over – that all cops are lazy, and are constantly eating donuts. Now cops for the most part have that message tattooed on them. Why?

  • Do you expect cops to work an entire shift without eating or grabbing a coffee?
  • Do you do the same at your job?

Either way – I think it’s time everyone toss that bad rap you quite subconsciously have on people and a profession you likely know very little about.

You know where this ridiculous sticker is?

Bloody Cupid Graffiti

Where is this bloody cupid graffiti in Hoboken?

Spotted this “creative” graffiti in Hoboken this week. It’s of a little Cupid, who apparently pulled the bow and arrow in the wrong direction, effectively taking his own life.

Do you know where this is?

Also – what message do you think the “artist” was trying to convey here? That cupid is dead – and he has no chance at love? Or even worse, that if you love yourself too much, it can be fatal?

Where is Edward?

Where is this Edward engraving in Hoboken?

Many older buildings in Hoboken have “names.”

There has to be some history behind why some older buildings have names engraved on them, but I’m certain I wasn’t even born yet when this convention began, so I cannot say with any true authenticity based on real experience. But my best guess it was imported here from other cultures, most likely in England or Europe somewhere. If anyone has first-hand knowledge about this – please feel free to share.

Anyway, today’s Hoboken “Where is this?” photo quiz pertains to this “Edward” engraving somewhere in town. Are you attentive enough to recall where it is?

Where is Johnny’s Prime Meats?

Where is the Johnny’s Prime Meats sign in Hoboken?

It’s a shame with all the supermarkets dominating Hoboken, that the number of real honest butchers has dwindled steadily over the past few decades. Joe’s Prime Meats is now Cugini Kitchen, Paramus Meats is gone – and all we’re left with is Truglio’s (thank God!)

That said – I can’t even remember Johnny’s Prime Meats, or when it was operational in Hoboken. Do you know where this sign is located? And better yet – have any of the readers ever been there back when it was open?

No gum, seeds, candy or soda

[Continuing the original Hoboken411 photo series: Where is this?...]

Where is this “No Gum” sign in Hoboken?

Have you ever seen this “No Gum” sign in Hoboken?

I know, at first thought you’re probably thinking this is next on NYC Mayor Bloomberg’s list of psychotic control measures he wants to inflict on the people in “his” city – but it’s not. It’s right here in Hoboken.

Speaking of that moronic soda ban in New York. How in God’s name did anyone, at any point take that “legislation” seriously? It’s so asinine on so many levels. It will not prevent people from consuming multiple smaller sodas, will cause hardship on families, create more waste – and more importantly, add additional layers of government in order to “regulate” such nonsense.

Was that ban honestly to “help” people? Or just a ego-trip?

Frankly – it might even be a stepping stone for more civil liberties being taken away. You know the “boil the frog slowly” technique. End of rant.
