Hoboken streets hate cars

1/6/2008:

Be careful driving near 13th and Madison!

Hoboken’s already wretched roads just keep getting worse (will we have to raise the budget even more to address this?) as it’s been reported that an รผber-deep pothole near the intersection has just recently trashed two cars, rewarding them with two flat tires.

I bet the Hoboken police horses are afraid to walk near there, too.

We should seriously consider marketing the NW corner of Hoboken as the new Jeep Wrangler hot spot. Think about it … sell tickets, speed through the streets in the local tradition (i.e., blow troo da stop signs!), occasionally run over something small, furry and cute (was prairie dogs, but we can substitute Tinkerbell the WunderMutt), this could be great! Bonus points if you run over the mutt while it’s in the process of leaving a WunderMutt Nugget on the sidewalk.

We’ll let the taco truck cater the event, and then we’ll all go meet at McSwiggins, er, Helmers, er, that Italian restaurant on 14th Street … Aw, shux, let’s just go burn something in an empty lot instead. We’ll make a bonfire with all that great Alt-A paper that was sold last summer by our neighbor in Apt XYZ. Yeah, the jagoff with the thinning hair, strategically concealed by his buzz cut, who wears too much cologne and brags about the chick he brought home from City Bistro. No not that chick, the other one. No not that one either …

The roads in the NW part of town suck, not surprised a few cars are messed up, that’s what happens when you hit a pot hole at 40mph. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve been passed by these dummies in a hurry.

Wonder if it’s part of Tarragon’s deal to fix up the roads after all their trucks and heavy equipment are moved out of the area.
And how about that insanity at 9th and Monroe (on the SW corner of ShopRite)? I’d love to see the salesperson for those new “luxury condos” back there explaining how the massive, shocks-annihilating potholes and road debris are “part of the local charm”.
And don’t forget the massive amount of water that accumulates there as well. I am really curious to see how that parking lot makes out in the new building during a storm similar to that in April.

I’m not at all surprised – the NW has plenty of places where the street looks like something out of a demilitarized zone. Try driving north on Adams to 15th sometime (the intersection is barely passable), or on any street (Clinton, Grand, Adams) between 15th and 16th.
