Kill = Dutch word for water/stream. Actually it should be “kil” since I’ve never met a dutch word that ended in two consonants.

Arthur Kill, Fishkill, Catskill, etc. All these names were spared when New Amsterdam became “New York.” All are reminders that the Dutch were here before the English.

Even “Hoboken” a town in Belgium, is a stone’s throw from Holland.

But I think the name “Holland Tunnel” came later.
