City Offender Zone 12/31/2007

12/31/2007:

It’s been over two months since the last city offender zone entry about government vehicles breaking the laws they’re supposed to uphold.

So just in time for the new year, Hoboken411 reader Tim, sends these photos taken last week. Like I’ve said before, I have no problem with police or fire vehicles parking anywhere they need to, provided they’re on an official call. Tim doesn’t think this was an official call.

“Just wanted to share these pics I took of one of the worst police car parking jobs I’ve ever seen. These were taken on 12/26 on 4th Street. The cop car was parked a good 4 feet from the curb and making it extremely difficult for others to drive around. I can’t say how long he was parked like this, but it was at least 30 minutes as I walked by it both on my way to and back from Qdoba.”

Incidents of misconduct are annoying to those who seldomly get a second chance when they park 8 inches too close to the corner. However, I think it is symptomatic of a sense of government entitlement in Hoboken that runs much deeper than a bad parking job. Local officials believe they belong to a different class than the regular citizen and should be afforded the same perks and transgressions that’everyone’ before them enjoyed.

Our senior officials do notregulate it and set bad examples themselves. There is no oversight or control.

The parking placard problem that just surfaced is not unique to NYC. With no oversight or enforcement of proper conduct guidelines, things get out of control.
Slow news day Mr. h411???…… Hey Tim, I hope you ask the Cops to do a perfect parallel parking job when you call them for an emergency. How do you know a 30 minutes or longer is not a legit call? (Did you monitor the Police Scanner, doubt it!) If you called for a break-in, like the on at the Curling Club don’t you think that after they secured the scene that they would be taking a statement from the individual(s) involved? I would hope that they take as long as they need regardless of how they parked. Hey if it were you maybe you could ask them, “Excuse me Officer, did you park in a legal spot?” in between their getting pertinent information. Seriously I have been an open critic of plenty of HPD policy, but this is a bit outrageous. If this were outside a pizza shop, coffee shop, deli, etc… maybe I would see something wrong. Furthermore, (please correct me if I am wrong) isn’t this outside a school, don’t you think that maybe just maybe they got some kind of call for an alarm going off inside as you state the pictures were taken on what I assume to be a day off for the children? Listen, I hate seeing city vehicles parked illegally and even more so for ‘privileged citizens’ but let’s let the HPD do their job, its not like the squad care was down in Mardis Gras.
He was twenty or so… Read more »
