Storage unit auction

12/21/2007:

If you ever wanted to buy other people’s belongings, next Thursday is your chance. There’s a public auction being held at Extra Space Storage on 16th & Clinton St. on 12/27/2007 at noon.

I always wondered what happened during these auctions, why people left their stuff there, and if anything worthwhile can be obtained. My guess is that it’s probably some worthless IKEA furniture that people are willing to let go, instead of paying their dues.

Anyone care to guess?

Well Fap, regaring the “min auction price”…good point but if the banks can write down the book value of CDOs, which are basically long derivatives on housing, they should be prepared to take a loss on the actual underlying assets.

The problems the banks are having with foreclosure auctions is that many homes were financed near or at 100% so the min auction price, set at the amount of the loan, is the bubble price of the house.

Not a good think in a housing market looking to correct 30% nationaly.

As for Wall Street, Hoboken is a company town and that company is finance. Those layoffs will hit us hard. Hell even people who received good bonuses this year aren’t optimistic of next year’s bonus so will likely curtail spending on big ticket items even if their jobs are secure.

Hey at least we’ll get to watch Greenspan spin how this wasn’t any of his fault for the next year or so.

I was thinking we could use a nice pawn shop on Washington Street. Which realtor office will be closed first? I want to go in and make an offer on their space.

Referring to the latest new home sales data there, Yip, or just a general prediction of D&G for 2008?
