Mint Market – Hoboken, NJ – 303 1st Street
Opening up on the very transient First Street in Hoboken is Mint Market – a new ladies “vintage / contemporary” clothing shop. Also going by the name “Indie Queen,” Mint Market is owned and operated by “vintage fashionista” Valerie Duardo – who brings her style world to Hoboken after dabbling in all sorts of superficial clothing endeavors from NJ to Miami to eBay and back. She apparently has built up a “following” of very important people to help sustain her business providing current, fashionable (and fabulous) products for those who don’t know how to find style of their own.
Not to come across as “crass,” but isn’t “style” something you just develop? Or at least *should* develop on your own? What makes an “expert” an “expert” anyway?
If you like polo shirts and shorts – does that make you an expert?
You see – in the end, what fascinates me about this fashion world is – that all these “high and mighty” people (whether they be “designers,” fashion “divas” or whatever else you want to call them), are just people with opinions and preferences. How they become “authorities” about anything might be mind-boggling to the average person who does not think critically.
But it’s not as mind-boggling as you’d think.
Just the same way politicians have followings and supporters, so do these so-called “fashion know-it-alls.” Because people have stopped thinking for themselves, and rely on “trendy” or “current” people to dictate their own lives, and how they should live in order to be “accepted” by the rest of the indoctrinated world.
Imagine if you could just have a style of your own and keep it to yourself? Imagine a world without TV, magazines and celebrities? Most people probably wouldn’t be able to even get dressed in the morning…
