Light Rail Bandit

12/4/2007:

What appears to be the same individual that pistol whipped a man yesterday struck again on the Light Rail near 9th st.

The description was better this time. Short Hispanic (not black) male, 5’0″ – 5’2″, 20-25 years of age, dressed in black jacket (brown leather sleeves) with black hoodie underneath, baseball cap, brown boots and carrying a black duffel bag.

He fled the scene, took the elevator to the Heights and proceeded southbound (possibly back into Hoboken.) He again produced a silver handgun.

NJ Transit is apparently handling the situation after notifying HPD.

There was a cop car outside 9 St Station last night, but not Hoboken PD. They couldn’t be bothered I guess, so JC PD was there.

This guy needs a name like “El Pequeno Banditto”.

If Lt. Adriani was working you know that this guy would be caught and strung up to set an example. That is what happens when you disband SWAT. Strategic White Anti-Crime Team.

I mean honestly though, in a town with 100 plus police the size of a postage stamp, there should ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS be cops between the projects and both light rail stations. There shouldn’t be 30 straight minutes without a cop walking through those stations.

How about asking the developer to provide private security until the building is occupied? Since the town got very little in terms of givebacks… REALLY bright lights would be a start.

And re: estevens comment about the article on “Palisade” magazine, I attribute the mention of this faux green building to the fact that they bought a nice chunk of ad space on the rag, which is brought to us by the same people that publish The Hoboken Reporter.
I like beating on the Mayor and his developer cronies as much as the next guy, but I think we’re being short sighted wrt the 9th st. station.

Once the buildings are occupied, and there is retail traffic, I think these assaults will be a thing of the past.

Now if any of our very highly paid police would like to step up the presence until then, that would make a lot of sense…mkaythx.
Exactly what I think…..
