Hoboken wants to kill cops with asbestos?
Asbestos danger at Hoboken Police HQ – city negligent?
The Hoboken Police Headquarters is currently undergoing “renovations.” And part of that apparently includes endangering cops. What kind of sick administration allows this criminal act to happen? Perhaps one that hates cops?
Policemen have been working in that building since 1993, and many officers and officials have encountered bad cases of cancer, sometimes fatal. And during the past two decades of asbestos poisoning, not only have members of the police force been in contact with such toxic substances, so have many local residents. This issue potentially affects hundreds of individuals.
Hoboken PBA President Vince Lombardi chimes in below.
“As President of the Hoboken PBA, I am alerting you to the fact that asbestos was in fact discovered in HPD HQ, after the PBA and PSOA alerted officials of its possible presence during the demolition to the PD HQ lobby. Subsequently a clean-up crew was dispatched started to work on removal. However, as you can see by the attached signs posted, anyone entering the HQ should wear protective clothing. Police employees and citizens are still required to use this facility and work in it despite the warnings. The city Director Jon Tooke has not responded to my attached letter to date.
I’m told that the city states it is safe for officers and citizens to enter PD HQ and its only trace amounts of asbestos. Garbage bags are being used to section off the area while we are required to continue to work inside. “It is nice to know that these city officials are saying its safe to be inside during asbestos removal from their asbestos free offices in City Hall a block away”.
