Hoboken Dog Poop Alert!

Thousands of dogs in Hoboken – problem only on one block?

Hoboken Dog Poop Alert Parvo VirusHere’s a Hoboken Dog Poop Alert for those of you who walk your pooches along Bloomfield Street uptown between 12th & 13th Street.

One resident (who also owns dogs) placed some ominous signs that read “Please CLEAN UP after your dog. A serious virus is being transmitted to our healthy dogs by what you leave behind.”

My guess is that it could have been some parvovirus infected puppy that might have been new to the neighborhood. Even if you clean up a parvo-infected dog’s poop, any lingering residue in the soil or on the sidewalk will still contain the virus and can be transmitted to other dogs – for up to one year! Which is why all dogs should receive the parvo vaccination, and puppies really should avoid places like the dog run until they’ve had their shots. However, there are quite a few people in Hoboken who are unfit to own dogs – and may not be following sensible dog care guidelines. Who knows.

Luckily since I’ve had Hoboken411 Mascot Oscar, I haven’t heard of any dog parks overrun with any significant communicable diseases (like parvo, kennel cough, etc.)

Hopefully these dogs that were apparently inflicted are OK.

But this guy may have another problem on his hands. Looks like the rain washed some of that toxic printer ink off – and could kill his tree and have it come crashing directly into his brownstone!

I am a dog owner. I ALWAYS clean up after my pet. I am disgusted that people who own dogs or walk them for a living do not take the same measures when the animal goes to the bathroom. Last night I almost stepped in a pile of crap that was right outside the entrance to my building. I did not have anymore doggie bags with me or I would have cleaned it up myself. I had forgetten about it until this morning when I saw that some unfortunate person clearly stepped in the mess and tracked it into the building. When are people going to grow up and take responsibility when owning a pet?!?

Why do so many dog owners think their dog poop is recyclable? My recycling can is always filled with bags of poop.

Maybe it’s not just dogs that are colorblind.

EPA advises : Flushing pet waste is the best disposal method. (Yes, there are flushable bags)
MotherEarth advises
composters or those using it for fertilizer to compost in a ratio of 1:1:3 with brush, poop, and soil.

If anyone was regularly polluting my space I would get a picture in the act or if they come by at a regular time the health dept will investigate. I know one guy who was successful in having this prosecuted.[quote comment=”223630″]Why do so many dog owners think their dog poop is recyclable? I will say that I got called out by a cop the other day for my dog “squatting.” She actually pulled over her car, got out and yelled at me from a block away. Did your dog just poop? At first i didnt know she was talking to me. I was like she is female and squats to pee. A little overzealous. I would think a cop would have more important tasks on a Sunday afternoon then to check the bathroom habits of dogs or falsely accuse responsible citizens of being unlawful.

This weekend I saw a young girl about for or five with pending over full month with her pants down and her mother wiping her crotch on the sidewalk near the gazebo. When she pulled her pants back up there was a pee patch on the sidewalk. 😯 So it is not just dog owners folks should be complaining about.[quote comment=”223624″]I will say that I got called out by a cop the other day for my dog “squatting.” She actually pulled over her car, got out and yelled at me from a block away. I saw this happen once to! I was talking to a City mover and shaker and she stopped to remark that a person on the sidewalk was allowing his dog to poop. I watched for a moment and saw the guy walk away with nothing on the ground and replied, ” Helen, sometimes a squat is just a squat”. 😛 [quote comment=”223624″]I will say that I got called out by a cop the other day for my dog “squatting.” She actually pulled over her car, got out and yelled at me from a block away. Douchy McDouchbag is still at it: today alone I passed four lone poop bags just lying on the ground on my way to the PATH, and three on a different route on the way back.

It takes a special kind of obnoxious stupidity to think the practice is acceptable – but this obnoxious stupidity is pervasive.

Did you just tie up the bag and leave it there after Tinkerbell or Buttercup pinched a loaf? You deserve to be punched. Hard. Failing that, very public humiliation will do.
