First Frost

11/7/2007:

For gardeners and people who still like to wear shorts.

Frost advisory in effect from 3am to 8am Thursday.

hoboken-cold-frost-weather.jpgThe National Weather Service in Upton has issued a frost advisory which is in effect from 3am to 8am Thursday.

Temperatures will be in the mid 30s, except for right along the immediate coast for a few hours approaching and at dawn overnight. This, along with light winds and clear sky conditions will allow for frost to form on exposed vegetation.

A frost advisory means that frost is possible. Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered.

I come originally from Florida, where they make a big deal of frost advisories and frost warnings. Everyone gets all worked up, bringing inside all their tropical potted plants that can’t stand the cold. Any plants that can’t be brought in get blankets thrown over them. Some people I know even have a kerosene heater for their outdoor garden.

A cold winter is one where they have 3 or more frost warnings.

I didn’t think we had them up here until now.

FROST! Hoo-Ray. Only a month behind schedule, but hey, who cares. Plus, the chick-mouth in the photo looks like hottie-druggie, Iona Skye, who’s so hot. Not just like, Oh, yeah, she’s hot, but hot like, I’d leave my kid in the shopping cart if I saw her at Kings and said “Hey, wanna go burn some meth?” and she said, “Way.” That kind of hot.
