I can sorta understand the reminders where every vote could really count. However, I found that during the last presidential election I had to run a gauntlet of “did you vote yet?” Kerry supporters. With NJ being a solidly blue state for that election I wanted to shake them and say “your candidate has this state sewn up – my vote won’t matter nor will the entire town’s. 12 people reminding me to vote won’t change anything.”

I appreciate their passion but take pity on their innumeracy.

You may want to read up on the free rider problem for public externalities –it might help you understand why non-free riders might feel some resentment.

And to the others who are slightly more sensible about all this, my opinions were specifically aimed at the “pro-voting fanatics”, and I don’t consider those who simply remind people to vote fanatics. The fanatics are primarily the Zimmer and Campos supporters who i have observed being over-zealous and disrespectful. I advocate the live and let live attitude, even when it comes to voting, and I’m not afraid to say so even though I’m in the minority here. I can’t really think of anything that I insist everyone should share my view on and do exactly as I do. To each his own.

No one was ever harassed, at least not by me. I agree its a free country. They have every right to give up their right to vote, and then bitch and moan about how crooked and inept their government is.

And I have every right to say that it is stupid to not use the one voice you have in your government, especially when there are people around the world that would give up their life to get the kind of freedoms we enjoy.
