Hoboken Elks Lodge turns 125!
Hoboken Elks Lodge 125th Anniversary – April 27, 2013
Wow! Talk about a huge anniversary you’ll want to mark your calendars for! The Hoboken Elks Lodge (1005 Washington) celebrates their 125th Anniversary this year, and is holding a commemorative GALA on Saturday April 27, 2013.
The big party starts at 6:30pm with cocktail hour located in the grill room, then followed by a tasty dinner at 8:00pm in the grand ballroom.
Believe it or not, when the club was being formed – the Elk only narrowly beat out the Buffalo as the “readily identifiable creature of stature which is indigenous to America.”
(If it was my club – the Hoboken411 Mascot Oscar would be that creature. In other words, the “B-POO.”)
And you know that number you see next to the Elks? You ever wonder what it is? It’s actually the quantity of Elks locations that were built at the time (in other words, the Hoboken lodge was the “74th one in the country,” with the first one being in NYC). There – now you know.
The BPO Elks No. 74 has been a valuable asset to the Hoboken community since it began, and most recently playing a vital role in the Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts – providing food, shelter and electricity.
Tickets cost $100 per person. Contact Jason Alvarez at JELKS400@gmail.com for information.
As a bonus – any resident is invited to go on a Historical Tour of the famous building on Sunday, April 21st (starting at 2pm) as well.
