No election is perfect, but last Tuesday's election was the closest the Fourth ward has seen in living memory. Both Campos and Zimmer (to their credit) called for monitors from the AG, and to the AG's credit, they came and did a great job.The Board of Elections investigated all credible claims of non-residency, and likely substantially reduced the incedence of fraudulant voting.

Even the two previous elections in this cycle were far, far, better than the bad old days. Paid workers -- on both sides -- seemed to understand that they were expected to work for their pay. Absentee ballot concerns were mostly about if an extra pair of hands touched a SEALED envelope, not like the old days where both sides were commonly accused of filling out ballots. And except for a few made up charges, there was little physical intimidation.

As time passes things continue to improve on this front at least. But it's worth reflecting what it was like in years gone by. It's a far cry from years past.

The sample ballot that was sent to registered voters had all the public questions just as they were laid out in the voting booths. All anyone has do is read the sample ballot and the questions beforehand, and voting will only take an additional second or so.
Yea MauMau.....IF you received one. I didn't, and I know others who didn't.
My husband got one, but I did't. But I had just done a name change with my voters registration in September...

The county has to get better at sending these out and posting the correct polling places.

I read a few comments during the day yesterday from posters who felt they were taking to much time in the booths reading the public questions, so they didn't vote on them.

You mean people were supposed to read ahead of time and not sit in the booth for 15 minutes trying to understand legalese that was meant to not be understood?

----
It's my belief that if you care you care, and if you don't, you're that guy in the booth for 20 minutes. Either way, posting on this message board is like preaching to the choir- whether it be about booth etiquette, getting out to vote, or otherwise being involved, the people that post here are generally all in agreement.

Not so fast Cat....
I've a bad feeling about this one.
Turnout in the second district of the fourth ward, is already well over 300 at 5pm. It only turned out 413 total in the last election, and 5-8 is traditionally the big vote from returning workers. Dawn got 91! of that vote.

Translation: This is VERY winnable, and the RAIN-FREE next two and a half hours will tell the tale.....CALL, E-MAIL of KIDNAP any Fourth Ward residents you know and GET THEM TO THE POLLS!
