Westminster dog groomed in Hoboken

CJ the Newfoundland – Westminster dog groomed in Hoboken!

As many of you may know – the Annual Westminster Dog Show began in New York this week.

And one of the dogs – “CJ,” a Newfoundland from Wisconsin had his pre-show grooming right here in Hoboken at the Hoboken Dog Wash! The family that brought him in discovered Fran’s shop when they saw it on the TV show Modern Marvels.

CJ was massive! 180 pounds, but soft and loving as can be (although could be dangerous to kids if he falls!) Apparently there are 13 other Newfoundlands entered into the dog show – and must go through rigorous early round competition to make it to the final stage of the show. More about the Newfoundland breed:

“A large dog and a true workhorse, the Newfoundland is a master at long-distance swimming and has true lifesaving instincts in the water. He is large and strong, possessing a heavy coat to protect him from icy waters. Equally at home in the water and on land, today’s Newfoundland competes in conformation, obedience, agility, tracking, draft and water tests, and carting. His coat can be black, brown, gray, or white and black.”

Hope CJ wins!
