2:40am Update:
Here are some other quotes from the live action: “Send FD here! Head injuries”… and “many people claim they were assaulted, but no one knows who’s who”.. . “send more units.. we have 100’s of people one the street here”…
Sounds like they’re trying their best to handle this situation, but it seems that the PD staff is a bit strapped right now. At least one person arrested so far.
2:25am Update!!!!
Hell breaks loose in Hoboken!
First, a fight outside Teak… THEN, a report of shots fired outside Puerto Spain, multiple ambulances needed. However, cops quickly corrected those original reports indicating that it was a bottle being smashed over someone’s head. Medical assistance being dispatched to both 14th and 15th and Bloomfield. Several actors have been “identified” as one with a “Jailbreak” costume, and another in a purple “Power Ranger” uniform with glitter.
Another fight is being reported in the parking garage on Bloomfield between 14th & 15th. Many additional police units dispatched because “multiple” fights breaking out.
What are they fighting over? Who deserved the “best costume” awards?

There’s usually a couple fights every weekend here in Hoboken. I wonder how many are “costume related” this weekend?
Overheard in the past 10 minutes:
One dispute was over at Mikie Squared, where a group was asked to leave by staff, and was ruled “only a verbal”.. wonder what Philly2Hoboken’s Furey has to say about that? Maybe it’ll be some kind of blog entry where he once again saved the day for a damsel in distress.
Another was at 3rd and Bloomfield near Duffy’s bar, where reports of a “large street fight” was in progress. However, it didn’t seem so bad, as officers laughingly responded that “Spock” was involved in this fracas.
Anyone see any other wacky fights between costumed bar patrons?

I had no idea there were any incidents in Hoboken until I just read this. As an independent observer, I walked from the PATH all the way home up washington from 3 till 3:30 and saw no unusual activity. Though there were some cop cars peeling off/sirens blaring onto various side streets…

The uptown incident was pretty big. Multiple people arrested on scene, plus additional charges made at HUMC hospital.
There was also some recurring fights near 560 Marshall Drive, loud banging parties, and miscellaneous incidents peppered around town.
Definitely busier than a regular weekend.

Sounds like the HPD were pretty busy last night, but it seemed like it took forever for them to get the appropriate support to break this up. It went on for quite a while, and kept flaring up every 10 minutes or so…. The ones that were there seemed outnumbered by pretty fired up partygoers.

Wall to wall loud shrieking chaos last night. Even worse there was a mix up with the daylight savings time …clock goes back next Sunday!

was driving home last night and saw about 4 police cars by the parking deck over by the Tea building. popped on the police scanner and heard the above, definitely seemed like they had their hands full.
…but considering at first glance I thought perhaps it was a DUI checkpoint, i was relieved to find out it was all ‘just’ for somebody getting a bottle cracked over their head… phew

Holy Christ, do you mean to tell me that FOR ONCE the cops bothered to pay some attention to 14th and 15th Streets? Jaysus, I wish they’d set up a DWI checkpoint here. You wouldn’t believe how many people I see blowing through the stop signs over here, driving across the double-yellow lines to avoid the speed bumps, etc. It’s the same shit every night, from Wednesday through Saturday — blatant disregard for anything resembling a traffic control device (lines, signs, customary practices, etc.)
I swear to you, some day there’s going to be a head-on collision or a pedestrian mow-down on 15th between Washington and Bloomfield (i.e., between the Tea Bldg.’s driveway circle and the parking garage) because, apparently, all vestiges of the traffic code have been repealed by Trenton with respect to this particular block.
Of course, the governor was living here, and he went through the dashboard at 90 mph, courtesy of his own chauffeur/state trooper driver, so I suppose we know what Trenton thinks of driving regulations.

Seen coming home from the PATH just after 5am: At the corner of 3rd and Washington, an incredibly drunk, fat yuppie guy trying to run from a NYC cabbie, trying to beat the fare.
The cabbie easily catches him and wrestles with him and yells for me to call the police. I oblige, and they arrive within 60 seconds or so, at which point drunk, blubbery guy begins to profusely apologize and…cry.
So pathetic…

BMac- the plane is flying to Florida with or with out you….if a cabbie takes a job to Hoboken, that’s 30-40 minutes he’s not picking up short rips in NYC at $10-15 a pop.

A cab from the city is technically double the meter once you cross the NYC/NJ line in the tunnels. Try explainging that to a cabbie (good luck) or negotiate a flat rate off the meter. If the cabbie is playing thick, take a cab to a street close to the tunnel entrance, then get out, then grab another cab to take you through the tunnel. You’ll save double the NYC fare. There’s always cabs in the tunnel neighborhoods.

In fact, the fare outside the 5 boroughs is whatever you and the driver negotiate it to be, it says so in every cab.
I never pay more than $40, $35 if I can get it. That’s flat, no tolls, no tips. Don’t be a sucker and pay more than that. It’s never more than $12 with the meter running, I know because I have been in several where they left it on.
