No mercy from parking ticket revenue

Cold weather kills car – Hoboken still issues summons

As most of you who have stepped outside the past few days – you know it’s been brutally cold.

And along with the cold weather, one of the bad things that can happen is that some cars won’t be able to start (battery can’t muster up enough juice to get flowing).

One resident had that problem yesterday morning when they went to move their car for street cleaning – the car wouldn’t turn over. The driver then left a note explaining the predicament while they made arrangements to get it repaired.

The brainwashed street-sweeper enforcement crew didn’t have any sympathy and issued a ticket anyway. Talk about kicking someone when they’re down. This city will stop at nothing to continue pick-pocketing residents for their own coffers.

Yes of course don’t expect them to apply their senses. If you were sitting up straight dead in you car you’ d likely get several days of tickets.

Shouldn’t really have to consider why someone is illegally parked, just whether. I’ve been in similar situations over the years–changing flat tires at 6am or 9pm, taking a cab to pep boys to pick up a battery–racing the clock. Par for the course–get AAA, don’t blame HPU.

I think it’s better that things like this are uniformly enforced; I don’t know that I want to trust the subjectivity of a meter maid, or have meter maids be the arbiters of fact. You assume the note is even true.

I’m sure if the note said, “Don’t give me a ticket; I’m a friend of David Mello,” you’d want it similarly ignored. Maybe the owner of the car can bring the receipt for a new battery to the courthouse as proof of extenuating circumstances, and the ticket can be properly dismissed.

If the note worked we would start seeing more and more of these notes. Some might even be honest.

You wouldn’t leave your baby outside in bear country. The only thing a bear thinks about is its hunger which is how it distinguishes right vs wrong. You must apply that thinking to the ticket people because they crank out tickets like their jobs depend on it.

This city would die if it were not for lazy drivers. Millions annually.
