Town Smoke door kicked in – nobody around notices

I forgot to mention this! Two Sundays ago – the convenience store Town Smoke was burglarized. It’s located at the busy intersection of 11th & Washington Street.

An unknown individual apparently just kicked the glass door in at shortly before 11pm, rifled through the cash register and took off (with less than $100). The owner had to immediately come to the store to protect the premises until the glass could be repaired, and the door secured.

11pm on a Sunday may be quieter than rush hour on a Friday – but still. No one heard it. Even with other businesses nearby that were still open (such as Maxwell’s) – it’s amazing that a person could get away with it.

I guess it’s all those people with headphones on and heads down looking at smart phones to drown them from reality.

The HPU will find a car parked without a permit within 5 minutes, yet they can’t also be on the lookout and alert police when they witness crime? I guess there’s no revenue in that.

There is no money in stopping crimes and crime stats can always be manipulated down, but tons of money and payola to be found in ticketing a towing cars(legally and illegally)[quote comment=”219142″]The HPU will find a car parked without a permit within 5 minutes, yet they can’t also be on the lookout and alert police when they witness crime? Can’t believe how clueless the populace is! Glad the thief didn’t get away with much.

What amazes be is that people that live in this city that will call the HPU immediately to boot a post-Sandy contractor that parks on the resident side of the street but then don’t bother calling the police when your car is stolen from in front of the same building.
