AL / NL Championship Series

10/9/2007:

Well, the local area teams are all out. Yankee fans are upset, Torre may be gone, and the roster may change significantly in the off-season. Boston fans are pumped, and the NL west coast is fully representing.

What do you predict will happen in the next week and a half? Below are the polls and schedules. Also updated the overall World Series poll on the left (which 69% of readers believed the Yankees would win, and 13% Boston..)

Paplebon is young so he ovviously doesn’t have the time serves to be compared to Rivera over the years where say Pablebon was busy with 5th grade social studies…but over the last two years he has been better.

The Red Sox have the best starting pitching in baseball and world class closer. They also have far better than average hitting. Period. Right there- consider the smoke and mirrors mystery solved. It wasn’t a very riveting mystery to be honest. What would they have to have in order for them to be a “real” good team- the AL All Star lineup?

Not sure what kind of point you are trying to make about Youklis. The scouts have been screaming is praises years before he got to the Bigs, and he looks like he is probably worthy of the praise. Exactly what evidence do you have that he just had a career year? Funny thing is, I still remember one of my Yankee friends saying the same crap about Ortiz after the 2003 season- career year, yada, yada, yada. Ditto for Pedroia and Lowell- these guys didn’t come out of the ether, whether you expected them to hit this year or not.

I’d keep going with this curious argument, but I gotta plan my ALCS party.

let’s cool it with the superlatives…Papelbon could barely hold Mariano’s jock strap. By 1.85, do you mean an ERA which is twice as high as Mariano’s in postseason. Let’s let him get tested first. As for middle relief…Chokajima has also got a lot to approve. Obviously their #3 and #4 are great. But that was kind of my point. On paper all these other guys are chumps. Much credit to them for getting to this point in time, and no doubt all they have to do is win one more series and they are world champs (b/c then they play the minor league – er, National League champs), but still, my point still is hard to disagree with – it’s perplexing to figure out how this team is this good.

As for announcers, solid points about TBS, but what is refreshing about TBS is you don’t have the overhyped, Fox-like, ESPN Sportcenter-like announcer-ego-driven telecast. I love that. And one of the NL crews were solid. Hate to say it but I think it’s the guy from Boston and he’s solid. Don something. And Ron Darling.
