Sluggish recovery continues

Hoboken slowly getting closer to normal after Hurricane Sandy

Many residents still don’t have power in Hoboken – and with the PATH station out of commission, thousands of destroyed cars – the load is being felt elsewhere. Such as the NY Waterway Ferry – which is seeing traffic reminiscent of post 9/11.

Additionally – places such as the uptown Starbucks (which just came back online yesterday) is also much more crowded than usual, as those ferry commuters pass the java on their way to work.

Wonder when it will be 100% back to normal?

Just got home and WOW what a pain in the a$$…I work on 55th and 6th…didn’t know if the ferry bus was running the 57th route b/c of the dangling crane. Ended up walking all the way down to the ferry port. When I got the HOB line wrapped all the way outside of the building…not just wrap, but zig-zaging. My hands & ears were about to freeze off. I have to say the DHS police did a good job of organizing people in line and making sure no one got out of hand. But the ferry for HOB is only once every 20 min. Waited for about 45 min to get on. And it takes like 10 min just to load everyone. When it comes to commuting during rush hour, it’s PICK YOUR POISON!

The 126 bus around 11:40am was fast and I caught it on 11th / wash. No traffic and plenty of seats.

Can anyone update with how the 126 bus was this morning? I ended up taking the ferry, which had pretty much no line (after 9am) but I’m curious to see if NJ Transit’s “added buses to eliminate crowding” helped at all, especially for uptown residents.

I took the bus yesterday and it was awful, 2.5 hours to get into the city.
Just got home and WOW what a pain in the a$$…I work on 55th and 6th…didn’t know if the ferry bus was running the 57th route b/c of the dangling crane. I just wanted to take a minute to sincerely thank Hoboken 411. We had little to no information this past week and have been able to get what we need from this site. Another example of how great our community is and how when disaster strikes it’s your neighbors that you can count on, not Mayor Zimmer or any other beaurocratic entity!

Thanks to Hoboken 411 and our neighbors in Hoboken for being the shining light in this terrible situation!

The bus was a disaster today. It was impossible to get a bus uptown. They were already loaded to capacity by the time they got up to 9th and probably even before then. Waited 45 minutes then gave up. People in front of me had alrady been waiting an additional 45 minutes before I even got on line.

Ouch. All tunnel traffic or inside Hoboken as well?

Combination of both. Riders paying cash slow things a bit and the line to enter the tunnel was back to the Malibu.
Ouch. All tunnel traffic or inside Hoboken as well?
