Which? Faster food or safer sidewalks in Hoboken, NJ?
Besides grown men wearing superhero costumes – another two-wheeled trend is on the rise in Hoboken: Electric bikes for food delivery.
There are now a few local restaurants that are using electric bikes to get food to their customers faster.
Hoboken411 has received a few emails from concerned citizens wondering about the safety of these deliveries. I’ve personally seen these guys zip by at incredible speeds on the sidewalk.
Sure, they might be skilled or even courteous riders, but I haven’t even witnessed them ringing a bell, and they do sometimes reach break-neck speeds!
What would you rather have… your chicken dumplings 5 minutes sooner? Or these guys off the sidewalks?

I’m a huge proponent of bike usage in Hoboken and have no problem with these being used, provided they are only on the sidewalk if they are going at the speed of pedestrians (2-3MPH) as per Hoboken law.
City Hall should figure out a way to to fine businesses who’s delivery people break the law as such.

Seeing as the mayor will only ride in the street when there is a photo op for bike lanes, I don’t see enforcement of sidewalk riding coming anytime soon.

I believe that it’s the general idea to get bikes OFF the sidewalk and into the street.
