George Clooney gets hurt in Weehawken

9/25/2007 4pm Update:

Where’s Waldo?

waldo-hoboken.jpgYou won’t find George Clooney’s Hoboken pal Waldo Sanchez taking walk-ins at the First Street Barber Shop. Sanchez is part of Clooney’s posse, known as “The Boys”. He is also a Hollywood hairstylist who has worked on many of Clooney’s films, from Batman & Robin to Syriana, and Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve, and Thirteen, according to his IMDB listing.

Waldo Sanchez is not in the phone book. Does anybody know him, or was Clooney just meeting him in Hoboken for a snip and a shave?

Have you seen this guy in Hoboken? Can’t miss those sideburns.

9/25/2007 12pm Update:

Clooney got hurt because he visited Hoboken! Anyone know what hair salon this guy is from?

From Fox News:

Clooney’s New Film No Accident

“George Clooney’s excellent performance in his new movie, “Michael Clayton,” is no accident.

But his actual accident — on a motorcycle — took place because he drove to visit his pal, Waldo Sanchez, in Hoboken, N.J., Clooney told me last night at the “Michael Clayton” premiere.

Sanchez has been his hairstylist for many years. He invented that Caesar-like haircut that Clooney sported on “E.R.” and turned him into a sensation overnight after years of struggling for success.

Clooney’s friend Sarah Larson was with him. Now she’s on crutches with a broken foot.”

Over in neighboring Weehawken, Hollywood stud George Clooney and his new girlfriend Sarah Larson were involved in what we call in Hoboken, an “intersection accident”.

Clooney, Girlfriend Hurt in NJ Motorcycle Accident

clooney-larson-weehawken-motorcycle-accident.jpgGeorge Clooney and his companion were injured on Friday when their motorcycle collided with a car on a narrow road across the Hudson River from New York City.

Clooney suffered a broken rib and scrapes while his passenger, Sarah Larson, broke her foot in the 3:30 p.m. collision. The two were treated at Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen and released, Clooney’s spokesman, Stan Rosenfield, said.

“He’s doing fine,” Rosenfield said. “He has a broken rib, it’s very painful and it’ll take a long time to heal.”

Clooney and Larson were traveling north on Boulevard East and sped up to pass on the right a 1999 Mazda Millenia that was preparing to make a right turn, said Weehawken police Sgt. Sean Kelly. Both were wearing helmets.

It wasn’t known whether the Mazda’s driver, whose identity was not immediately released, used a turn signal, Kelly said. The accident was under investigation.

“It’s a he-said, she-said right now, but you can’t pass on the right in Weehawken or anywhere in Jersey,” Kelly said.
Rosenfield said the accident occurred when the vehicle signaled a left-hand turn, but turned right and struck Clooney’s motorcycle.

“The car signaled left. George was riding to the right. The driver decided to make an abrupt right turn and clipped George,” Rosenfield said.

The 46-year-old actor was in the New York area to film the dark comedy “Burn After Reading,” co-starring Brad Pitt, John Malkovich and Frances McDormand.

Clooney’s recovery shouldn’t interrupt the production’s schedule, Rosenfield said.

Clooney’s latest film, “Michael Clayton,” will be released next month. He and Larson have been spotted together at several film festivals and movie premieres in recent weeks.

whoa. damn. fortunate that she didn’t.

ouch

Looks like the blue car ran the red light (red for a long time – look at light on our side), while motorcycle went through green light (light lower on same pole) assuming that was safe.

When I went through the motorcycle safety foundation’s course’s, they showed us crashes like this and told us “expect that cars will do the dumbess things possible”.
So Clooney spends half his year riding his motorcycle in Italy and never gets into an accident. He comes to Hudson County and gets hit.
johndoe, here ya go

Police said that Clooney and Larson were traveling north on Boulevard East in Weehawken, N.J., and sped up to pass on the right a 1999 Mazda Millenia that was preparing to make a right turn when the accident occurred.

Lucky he didn’t get a ticket for that maneuver.
He broke a rib and she broke her left foot, but they were both walking the red carpet so they must have bounced off of the side of the car, instead of a dead stop or flying over the hood or over the roof of the car.
YipYap, TV news reported that witness saw Sarah Larson fly off the bike and land on the sidewalk which broke her foot.

Boulevard East definately has an impatient culture. Cars/bikes always pass i a hurry if you even slow down in the slightest. Clooney erred in not considering the safety of his passenger with a pass like that.

johndoe, Clooney was the one who “hit” the car, since he was passing from behind on the right which in NJ is against the law.

It could have been much worse judging by the TV interview he did yesterday. He broke a rib and she broke her left foot, but they were both walking the red carpet so they must have bounced off of the side of the car, instead of a dead stop or flying over the hood or over the roof of the car.

I used to ride allot in NJ and I can tell you the NJ drivers hardly ever use turn signals when changing lanes, but as a motorcycle rider you train yourself to anticipate and you assume that most automobile operators can neither see or hear you. As far as Boulevard East, it has lots of traffic lights, is narrow in places and you cannot drive/ride on that road like you would drive/ride down sunset strip. 8)
