86th Annual Hoboken Italian Feast at Frank Sinatra Park

The 86th Annual Hoboken Italian Festival returns to Sinatra Park along the Hoboken waterfront, Thursday, September 6th through Sunday, September 9th. This landmark event is open daily on September 6th and 7th from 5 to 11pm, and from noon to 11pm on September 8th and 9th. Admission is free, with over 50,000 people expected over the course of four days.

As the patron saint of sailors, the Madonna dei Martiri has had special meaning to the Italian coastal town of Molfetta for hundreds of years. The Hoboken Italian Festival recreates the traditional Molfettese feast in honor of the Madonna’s history. Speaking on the event, organizer Greg Gallo says, “We are excited and honored to provide a space where Italian-Americans can reconnect with their roots, and people from other cultures can get a taste and appreciation for all that Italy has to offer.”

The Hoboken Italian Festival includes activities for all interests and ages, with a special focus on children’s entertainment throughout the weekend. The annual Cannoli Eating Contest takes place on Saturday night, while the Hoboken Fire and Police Departments square off on Sunday afternoon for their annual Grape Stomp Contest. Free live entertainment is provided throughout the four days including: a Battle of the DJ’s on Thursday night, Freestyle Friday Night, All-Italian Saturday, and a variety of music on Sunday. Guests will be able to partake in all festivities while enjoying food from many different Italian vendors including treats from Hoboken’s own Carlo’s Bakery, of TLC’s hit show “Cake Boss.”

Mass celebrating the Feast of Madonna dei Martiri will be celebrated at St. Francis Church in Hoboken on Saturday, September 8th, at 11am. Later in the day on Saturday there will be a World War II Memorial Commemoration in honor of all 159 Hobokenites who lost their lives in the war, many of whom were Italian-Americans. A major fireworks show will take place along the waterfront of the Hudson River to close out Saturday’s festivities.
