Voting eliminated at Hoboken Elks

Last minute Hoboken poll changes at Elks Lodge

Attention 2nd & 5th Ward voters!

Many of you are used to voting at the Hoboken Elks Lodge at 10th & Washington – but at the last minute it has been changed.

The “official” reason for the change was supposedly due to the steps, and the “problems” they had with getting handicapped people into the building (via the rear entrance.)

According to sources, the “real” reason you can longer vote at the Elks was “100% due to stroller moms complaining.” Hmm. Are stroller moms so fat, weak and lazy that they can’t carry their aluminum “Rolls Royce” carriages up a couple stairs? C’mon, people!

Anyway – the new polling locations are:

Folks it’s called the Americans with Disabilities Act. The ADA applies here- if a restaurant has to have a handicapped accessible entrance for a handicapped person to buy a Happy Meal, don’t you think that there should be handicapped accessibility for something as important as voting?
If someone at the Elks Lodge told black voters to go away and that they couldn’t vote, it would make national headlines. If you have a voting station that is not handicap accessible, it’s the exact same thing.
I will agree that this change should have been done much earlier.

Sure I agree that a voting location should be handicap accessible. But a lot of these stroller moms and their kids are lazy! I see kids that can definitely walk getting stroller rides all the time- terrible they are just learning to be lazy.[quote comment=”215885″]Folks it’s called the Americans with Disabilities Act. While some may be ‘lazy,’ don’t forget that small children just can’t walk the long distances adults can. Everything in Hoboken might be a mile or less away, but that’s far for a 3 year old! It’s probably better that the parents are walking with them in a stroller rather than driving and adding to the traffic?[quote comment=”215889″]Sure I agree that a voting location should be handicap accessible. Interesting comment John14. They had to know there was a problem there – why DID they wait to the very last minute to change it? Its supposed to rain tomorrow, I guess some people are not going to do the extra walking to find the new polling place. At least they didn’t wait till two days before the presidential election to make the change.

Maybe they did it last minute to reduce voter turnout? Those used to voting there will be turned off and end up not voting at all.
