Your memory serves Max_Power. Here’s a portion of a letter to the Mayor from the former NJ Transit executive director outlining his concerns about development near the 9th Street Station
…the proposal at 800 Jackson Street threatens to visually and physically isolate the new station. Our Law Enforcement and Planning staff has visited the site and has expressed concerns related to the proposed height, but perhaps even more critical, to the building’s proximity to the station platforms.

The total building height, including parking deck and residences, is 140 feet, and threatens to block all public visibility of the elevator and stair tower. This not only diminishes the stair tower as visual indicator of the station, but removes all passive security for users of the stairs and escalators.

From a security perspective, the location of the proposed building wall at the property line and its close proximity to the platforms impacts law enforcement’s ability to monitor the platforms.
well exactly! When I complain about being almost hit by a bike, I don’t need a lecture from the local activist about how I should just sit back and not get angry at bad bike behavior because at least it wasn’t an SUV.
The nerve of bikers in this town as well as Manhattan just baffles me sometimes. What’s maddening is those supporters who say “They’re doing something for the environment, so we can’t criticize them.” Heard that one after nearly being hit by a bike who decided he could ignore both traffic and ped laws. But he’s not an evil Humvee, so I can’t complain.
Riding a bike doesn’t make you a jerk; being a jackass who rides a bike in the light rail station makes you a jerk. There’s no need to bring the environment stuff into it.

If memory serves the head of NJ Transit raises all sorts of red flags about the significantly decreased safety that would result from the construction of the MetroStop building. His objections were ignored by Roberts/Zoning Committee. If anyone from the Jersey Journal or Hoboken Reporter is reading, it would be interesting to get the Mayor’s thoughts on the increased crime at this station that seems to be a direct result of the ignored warnings of NJ Transit.
