Have you seen Rusty?

Rusty the dog is missing in Hoboken

There’s a $2,000 reward for Rusty, the brown & gray Yorkie that was reported missing. If you find the poor fella, call (201)933-3610 or (201)355-7807. This sign was posted on Bloomfield Street.

Apparently from what I understand, this may be the same dog that “escaped” from a local animal day care facility here in town (one of the doors was supposedly left open overnight). I heard from one source, that this same dog may have been spotted near Observer Highway over the weekend – and appeared to have some kind of injury. Hopefully he’s OK!

Thanks peanut14 and HomeTeam for providing more information. I take my dog to this facility and cannot tell you how happy I have been with them. The workers are fantastic. It is apparent that they care about my dog – and my dog loves them. He is so happy every morning when he walks in the door! I found it incredibly hard to believe that they would be so callous after a dog escape that they would not call shelters and animal control. That just is not plausible based on my experience with this organization and its employees. Although I am greatly saddened by this tragedy, it sounds like a freak-occurrence. Hopefully they will review their protocols and test their safety equipment as a result. I will continue to bring my dog here, confident that they care for him lovingly.

My understanding is that the property had been vandalized which led to the escape route for the small dog. Did the dog lose its collar trying to force its was through the door?
In my experience, Yorkies tend to be “compass dogs,” once they are out, they just run north until someone catches them or they are involved in an accident.

But hey, it wouldn’t be Hoboken if people didn’t jump to conclusions and try to sink a local business(especially one that dared stand up to the mayor)

it is most likely the one on 8th and clinton. I too, would be besides myself if it were my dog. I guess accidents DO happen but I would want to know EXACTLY what procedural changes will be made to prevent something like this from happening again. The real crime would be if they do nothing and don’t review past procedure. my condolences to rusty’s family.

i too was very sad about this story. as soon as i heard about the event – i called the daycare facility where i have been taking my dog for the last 6 years and alas, it was as i feared – the tragic accident had occurred there. and they were tremendously honest and open about what happened – i encourage you to call and ask them yourselves. they did call animal control and they of course called all local law enforcements and shelters (and i checked bc i too looked into it because of course as a dog owner i wanted rusty to be found alive – i went out walking my dog that weekend looking around and calling for him) – and they too searched all over for him – i know because i saw them on their way out one nite. it was a horrible accident and they are doing everything in their power to prevent it from happening again. to my knowledge this is the first horrible incident since they took over from prior ownership (don’t get me started on those owners) – in part because prior ownership had several incidents and they’ve gone above and beyond to fix the problems – with motion detectors, alarms etc – why this time it didn’t trip i don’t know…everything that could go wrong did i fear… At the new facility mentioned they will have 24 hour surveillance btw – i did ask. of note – the people there… Read more »
