City Council Meeting – 3/21/2012

Hoboken City Council Meeting of March 21, 2012

Below are the meeting documents for tonight’s city council meeting. Some noteworthy items this week in a packed agenda: Hundreds of thousands of dollars for new “Hop” buses that hardly anyone rides (and is currently a money-losing operation for the city), more parking robots to rob drivers, the costs involved with 1600 Park have crept up over 50%, “friends with benefits” breaks for the uptown YMCA to dodge permit expenses on their new project, and again with gobs of legal expenses for the administration.

That, is on top of MILLIONS more in bonding for various projects that should have been included in the municipal budget. In other words – kicking the can down the road once again.

And finally – the city (or should we say Mayor Zimmer and her Husband Stan) once again finds a way to give Michael Lenz a job in the Mile Square. This time on the Rent Leveling and Stabilization Board. Holy crap, this guy just won’t get his hands out of Hoboken politics! They would appoint him CITY HALL JANITOR just to give him an excuse to be in the building secretly advising everyone what to do.

Funny thing is – that it was Michael Lenz himself that once said “Never hire a friend, relative or crony.”

Actually, there are people who use the HOP frequently. Its a life saver for seniors (not everyone in town is an affluent cute young thing with a fancy car). My mom moved in with me – she has a heart condition — and the HOP allows her some mobility – she can take the HOP down to the senior center, over to Shoprite, etc. – all for free (I’m on disability and I don’t drive anymore). The HOP is an important necessity for some of us.

Whenever I’ve taken it with mom there have been plenty of other people on the bus. I don’t know what happens during the rush hour times – we only use it during the daytime “senior” hours and routes. But the senior times are busy.

Unfortunately, things like this are a money-losing operation for all municipalities. Yet, they are necessary.

You are absolutely correct, and I’m all for it. It was yesterdays mom and dads who paid taxes in this town to keep it going and now they deserve what little benefits are here for them. And if the hop bus is a money-losing operation to keep these seniors moving about—then so be it! I have little respect for those who disagree.
Actually, there are people who use the HOP frequently. Because she’s an habitual liar–always has been, and always will be.
Didn’t Simmer say something about ending this insider politics nonsense? WHy is Lenz at the top of every damn list?
