Water Main Break: 14th & Grand

Hoboken Water Main Break on 14th St. between Grand & Adams

Around 12:30am this morning, a water main erupted directly in front of Clearview Cinemas, and underneath the ongoing 14th Street Viaduct Rehabilitation Project.

In fact – this main broke directly under a mega-ton construction crane (I’d be nervous the street will collapse under the heavy rig).

One might wonder if the extensive work going up there rattled our already out-dated and brittle water infrastructure.

And one might wonder again if priorities are a bit screwed up in this town. If I were Mayor – I wouldn’t spend a penny on “beautifying” the city with parks and other “amenities” until our damn sewer and water system was completely brought up to date. Band-aiding costs more in the long run, in my opinion.

No word on whether neighboring food businesses like Carpe Diem, Pilsener Haus Biergarten or San Giuseppe Pizza will be affected, and if it will impact the theater’s operation in the short term and for this upcoming weekend.

This might make the rat problem at the cinema worse. I shudder just thinking about it.
