Big lacrosse match at Stevens this weekend
No. 4 Stevens hosts No 2. Tufts in Hoboken, NJ on March 17, 2012
In what some folks around here are calling “arguably the biggest game in the history of the Stevens Institute Lacrosse program,” an important match against Tufts University is scheduled to take place here in Hoboken on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 1pm.
So if you’re not partaking in a day of drunken debauchery (it is the real St. Patty’s Day after all), why not check it out? You can access the field from either 8th Street or 6th Street. Note: some mild hill-walking may be required.
Will Stevens knock Tufts off to go 6-0?
“In the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Top-20 poll released earlier this week, the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s lacrosse team moved up three spots to No. 4 after a pair of wins over Muhlenberg College and Endicott College this week. The Ducks are 5-0 this season and will host No. 2 Tufts University at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Stevens defeated Muhlenberg on March 7 in Allentown, Pa., 18-14, and then traveled up to the Boston area to take on then No. 15 Endicott College, and dropped the Gulls, 8-7 in overtime.
In the two victories this week, junior midfielder Rich Dupras (Hillsborough, N.J.) tallied 10 goals. For his efforts, Dupras was named the Empire 8 Conference’s Player of the Week after scoring six goals against Muhlenberg and four more versus Endicott.
Through five games this season, the Ducks have outscored their opponents, 72-40. Stevens has forced 14 more turnovers in five contests and prevailed on 13 more clears for a better clear percentage of .840 to .685.
On Saturday, Stevens will look to knock off No. 2 Tufts for its sixth consecutive win. The Jumbos won the NCAA national championship two seasons ago and were the runners-up last year.”
