Epilepsy Fundraiser at Green Rock
Hobokenite holds Epilepsy fundraiser on March 10, 2012
Here’s an example of how fundraisers in Hoboken should be modeled after.
The Epilepsy Foundation creates awareness for people that do not understand epilepsy and is a large part in helping advocates to get information out to people and trying to erase the stigma that epilepsy has.
Stefanie herself has a mild seizure disorder, and beyond trying to raise awareness to people she knows, she’s always looking to better those with epilepsy that have more severe cases than she does. The reason for she’s holding the event is to bring the community closer together and help raise funds for epilepsy research and creating better and more effective treatments for those who have it.
She became inspired when reading an article on the Epilepsy Foundation website, where a young girl who had a seizure disorder wanted to raise awareness in her school. She ended up throwing a bake sale during a school dance. “It was really fun and productive evening. Her peers helped her reach her ultimate goal,” said Stefanie.
Stefanie added “When reading this article I thought to myself “I can do that!” I wanted to make the fundraiser something that people in the Hoboken area would want to come to, to see their friends, have some drinks and food and of course have a great time dancing, music etc.”
All of the proceeds from the raffle are going to the Epilepsy Foundation as well as a portion of the cover charge. “Anyone can come, they do not have to pay a cover if they choose not to. The goal is to sell as MANY raffle tickets as possible, so the foundation will get a generous donation from the Hoboken area,” said Stefanie. Details:
- $40 Open Bar from 8-11p
- Pass around hors d’oeuvres
- Raffle tickets (3 for $5.00 or 7 for $10.00) for sports memorabilia from: Devils, Giants, Rangers, Mets and Jets. (Raffle at 10:30pm)
- You do NOT have to do to the $40 open bar and can purchase drinks at your leisure, but you will not receive a raffle ticket unless purchased.
- The tickets can be purchased at the door or on the floor during the event.
