The Original Soup Man

9/28/2007 Update:
Here’s some photos from last week’s grand opening of the Soup Man. They gave $1500 to charity and lucky winner Vasudev Trivedi won a cup of soup every day for the rest of his life.

9/18/2007 Update:
As Hoboken411 originally reported back in July, The Original Soup Man was slated to open up in “mid-September”. Lo Behold, a prediction that has defied the laws of the H.A.T.T.!!! Play the lotto today, the planets must be aligned or something.
Employees were on the premises yesterday unloading fresh vegetables in preparation for what they believe will be a Wednesday, September 19th opening!
7/26/2007:
The Original Soup Man is coming to Hoboken!
Some of the owners of Nine and Define are opening up what should be a very successful Hoboken business at 502 Washington Street. Slated to open sometime in mid-September (permit hell notwithstanding), they plan to offer many different soups (over 60 recipes available), wraps, salads, sandwiches and smoothies. They’ll even have cold summer soups, which is great considering the Soup Hut turns into an “Ice Hut” during the warm months.
A nail salon closed? Something different opening in it’s place? Let’s play the Mega-Millions lottery!
Can’t wait!

I was having some friends over for dinner and wanted to get some soup. I bought a quart of the Lobster Bisque. The total was around $25. The soup comes with two pieces of bread and is supposed to feed 2-4 people. I’m serving four people so I asked for 2 extra pieces of bread. They refused and said the quart only comes with two pieces of bread. I spent $25 on soup. I know, and they know the soup is way overpriced and yet they won’t even give me two extra pieces of bread!!! I can’t wait until they go out of business. I did some research and apparently these franchises don’t stay in business for more than a year.

If I paid $25 for a measely quart of bisque (and I wouldn’t) and they refused me 2 extra pieces of bread…on my life I would demand my money back and if they didn’t give it to me, I would open the container and spray it all over the walls.
Again….lobster bisque is lobster lobster stock and cream and MAYBE a couple of pieces of canned meat. Cost basis on a quart is maybe $3-4 TOPS. You can buy 3 lobsters at Stop and Shop right now in Madison for $25.
