Is Eggnog doomed in Hoboken?

Does genuine Eggnog exist anywhere in the Mile Square?

This holiday season, I’ve noticed more and more eggnog items on menus (lattes, cupcakes, etc.)

It got me wondering: Does anyone serve real eggnog anymore (alcoholic or non-alcoholic)?

After calling some 30+ Hoboken establishments, the picture became clear: if you want eggnog this holiday season you better make some yourself!

More than thirty bars and restaurants indicated that eggnog is not on the menu for the holidays, and only Mikie Squared (616 Washington St.) said that they “may” have it closer to Christmas.

Following this surprising mini-investigation into the situation, I called two establishments outside of Hoboken I thought might have eggnog. Sure enough, I was 2 for 2: the Grain House Restaurant in Somerset County, and the Black Horse Tavern in Morris County, both serve eggnog frequently during the holidays.

Why it’s so darn hard to find in Hoboken? Is it too traditional a drink for the demographic that frequents Hoboken establishments? Is it too high in calories for people? Is it too much of a hassle to make?

Whatever the case is, I decided I’ll be making my own this Christmas Eve and suggest that you do as well!
