Free Parking for Christmas shoppers…

…Union City helps holiday commerce – Hoboken gives lumps of coal

Hoboken411 reader Tom noticed how friendly the municipality of Union City is… and wrote:

“So driving through Union City the other day I noticed these lovely covers on the parking meters.

Chances Hoboken ever does this? Probably never!

They are taking away critical sales dollars and tax revenue, just to make money with ticket and meter revenue which lines their pockets, and strangles the visitors, residents and businesses. Have you seen the number of vacant stores?

Ridiculousness…”

Hoboken is not the only town playing games w parking. Newark for years has had the same set of holidays. Then in 2010 with a tight budget the council voted to change the specific dates of the Holidays ( to be less inclusive). There would be no way of knowing of the change from the signage. It is exactly the same – only the ordinance was changed. Ka-Ching!

Point well taken Jersey and Union cities are more shopper friendly. But not for the HPA I would have never discovered this. JC merchants thanks HPA.
