Hoboken botches Church Square Park (again)

Hoboken goes back on Church Square Park Promises

Over the last two days a crew was ripping out old shrubbery and planting new landscaping in a section of Church Square Park that is supposed to be part of the new refurbished playground equipment.

Over a year a go, the city promised to replace the old dilapidated equipment and replace it with new “green” playground structures as well as expand the area for swings and include the addition of picnic tables.

Last May, Project Play turned over a $50,000 check to Mayor Dawn Zimmer and the City of Hoboken to purchase new equipment, and as you may recall – the city council also passed an ordinance in 2008 requiring any and all park changes require public input and approval. So much for that…

Did the city use Project Play’s money for unauthorized landscaping with the intention of not putting in new equipment or picnic tables? Misuse of funds?

What, is Jon Corzine running things around here?

Reminds me of all of the money that was collected for the Hoboken 9/11 memorial. There was a website and for it to make donations. Where did that money go? Anyone know?

Right on Yip Yap… they are all self serving. I remember how they made early news releases that were such total BS that I had to save it for reflecting upon when the nasty political hemrhoids flare up. Go back if you would to press release and see who the self-serving political persons are.[quote comment=”212896″]Reminds me of all of the money that was collected for the Hoboken 9/11 memorial. So many of these so-called nonprofits and charities are the same. Remember the scandal with the nonprofit foundation raising money to reopen the Statue of Liberty? Apparently the CEO was making over $300k a year and none of the money was going to the actual purpose of the foundation. I hear the big party at the W Hotel got out of hand, and when the tab was ready to be paid, it coincidentally came out to $50,000. That is where the money went, and why no playground is anywhere to be found. HAHA!

Why does Project Play hate Hoboken’s children? They should be ashamed of themselves. Give back the money you stole.

Now a whole new disturbing layer has been added to this issue about Church Square Park.

This playground renovation project was all a lie?

The little playground group collected money and never gave it to the city but told everyone they did, and then we have the City telling the public that the park renovations are progressing (and should have been completed already) when, in fact, no money has been exchanged between the parties and nothing is progressing on the park other than unwanted shrubbery?

To top it off, all the players in this, the City and the park group, kept it a secret from the public for seven months?

Well, this explains why the City’s public meeting regarding the playground was cancelled last July and never rescheduled.

What a bummer for all the people who put their faith and money into this park project.

Hi – My name is Zabrina Stoffel. I am the co-founder of Project Play. I can tell you that the City has NOT used any Project Play money for Church Square Park to date. How do I know this? Because the Hoboken Family Alliance did not give the City a check yet. Why not? This City needs to create a trust for the HFA money. They have not done that, so the HFA has not given the City any money.

Please do not disparage my name or the HFA for the sake of nasty politics.

Thank you!

Seems like you’ve left us with more questions than answers Zabrina. Where’s the dough?
And why haven’t you made the public aware?[quote comment=”212873″]Hi – My name is Zabrina Stoffel. I am the co-founder of Project Play.
