Xmas cheer can cause headaches

Not so merry Christmas for some in Hoboken, NJ
Yesterday afternoon, some kids from Stevens Institute tried hauling a giant 25-foot Christmas Tree up to campus. The tree was mounted to a U-Haul pickup truck with attached trailer.
Oddly, they chose one of the narrowest streets in Hoboken (9th Street), and ended up scratching and clipping off two side-view mirrors on some parked cars (despite going only 0.5 mph). That sucks! Not sure if they called the police to file a report or not, but they left the scene before we saw anyone arrive.
Ho, ho, ho!

At least we all should feel comfortable that they are qualified Engineers.

I went through three mirrors on my last car and dozens of dings, all the result of other Hoboken drivers. My bumper took so many hits that the finish eventually started to peel off. Not once did anyone leave me a note. Then I recently bought my first new car in 12 years and after living in Hoboken for nearly 20, I decided it’s time to rent garage space on Hudson Street. Even though it’s about six blocks from my house, it’s so worth it to not have to worry if someone will damage my car–and to know that I can come back late at night, especially on a weekend, and have a space waiting for me. It’s about $180 a month (or $6 a day) and I just factor it in as part of my monthly car payment. I’m not happy about having to pay to protect and park my car but I also can’t believe I waited this long to do it. When that first blizzard arrives I’m going to be very thankful that I don’t have to dig it out.

The lousiest part is that the kids obviously just wanted to get the heck out of there without being held responsible. A very ironic “Merry Christmas” for those car owners.
