Reader Mail: Parking spot rented illegally?

Here’s an interesting parking situation.

A reader wrote in saying that they’re on a waiting list for a municipal garage, but saw a for rent ad on Craigslist! What gives? Is that allowed to happen? Can you sublet a parking spot at a garage like that?

Hi 411,
As a resident who is currently on the waiting list on several city garages and often searches online classifieds for other affordable parking spots around town I am often very confused by these ads i find on craig’s list.

I park in the garage on 3rd street for about 4 years now. Since the last increase of 25.00 we lost the security of someone being there, the elevators are broken, and most mornings the gates usually have a problem. With all these new increases will these repairs be fixed or just fix the budget? Also what happen to the idea of only residents parking on the streets, I have no problem with that idea at all, let the visitors fix the budget by parking in the garages at any rate you like. The streets should be for residents anyway! Also do away with visitor parking passes, put them in the garage too. People who live here pay a lot of money for rents , home payments and of course taxes, they should be able to come home from work and not have to drive around aimlessly for a half way decent spot. Step up council, you live here you know what can be done to resolve this matter stop hitting the residents.

Is it true that Campos works at the garage?

With all the political meandering about parking during the elections, perhaps this is something that should be brought up in the next council meeting on Wednesday. The new council president should look into this and provide clarification. It’s her ward I believe.

It’s simple – they make people start out in the more expensive garage, hoping they don’t make a stink about moving to a cheaper one so they can collect the extra $50 a month…
