Don’t park near corners on moving days!

Inexperienced U-Haul newbies trash cars in Hoboken

The last and first of each month present a special set of dangers in Hoboken – now so, more than ever.

These days are bit “moving days” for both people moving out and moving in to the Mile Square. And what seems to be a by-product of “the economic crisis,” I’ve noticed a significantly higher number of U-Haul type trucks over paid movers. As a result, you have more people driving vehicles they don’t have much experience using.

Take this incident that happened at 9th & Bloomfield the earlier this week. A U-Haul truck clipped a parked car at the corner – and proceeded to drive away. No one reported this incident to Police (including the person who witnessed it.)

411 Tip: Don’t park near corners on moving days! This exact thing can happen to you, too.

Classy a policeman told me those carboard signs are called probergation’s..As legal as the metal signs.Any one tearing them down is subject to arrest and fine..If you notice there is a tag # on the sign..If torn down by jerks or revelers a uninformed parker is liibel which is unfar to say the least..If he she parks there in the night time..catch 22

@Whisky–I don’t think I would want to play that guy in scrabble.. anyway, I’ll be more specific.. when those signs are posted on private property such as my front gate, they are illegally posted and they may be considered a nuisance and defacement of private property. when those signs are posted in the public right-of-way on public property such as an easel or traffic device, they are considered legally posted, and are protected by law as you have stated.
Classy a policeman told me those carboard signs are called probergation’s..As legal as the metal signs.Any one tearing them down is subject to arrest and fine..If you notice there is a tag # on the sign..If torn down by jerks or revelers a uninformed parker is liibel which is unfar to say the least..If he she parks there in the night time..catch 22
classy..If that is your drive way it is illiegal..You just have to call the Tzar abd get a a name when speaking..no press one or two etc. You state your property, your house and what creten put a sign there? you are the only one that can call pd to have a car towed from private property,if what you say is true.Unless you own a two family house maybe just maybe you do.the tennents had to concurr with you first hand..That is more confusing than scrabble? If it’s a party that resides next door to you then you don’t have a case..other than that..????? 🙄
Another issue with the moving is the lack of getting the NO PARKING signs up in time. I received a call this Saturday morning to move my car from 11th street where I parked Friday night, with no signs mind you, and when I went to move it there were new freshly put up signs.
This is not the first time this has happened so when I called the Parking Authority they could not confirm when in fact the signs were put up. I was told sometimes they are put up late…. Late?!?! The morning of is considered acceptably Late?!?! I love Hoboken.

Does anyone know the lead time they have to post these signs. I would think it should be a week.

You’re lucky to have gotten that call. Lead time should be a week for non-emergencies, but there really is no lead time for posting signs–just 72 hours for purchasing. HPU will enforce a temporary no-parking zone with or without a sign, and courtesys calls are seemingly granted at random. Signs are often posted (illegally) on private property rather than in the public right-of-way so they do sometimes get torn down and there is no law against tearing them down.
Another issue with the moving is the lack of getting the NO PARKING signs up in time. classy courtesy calls are a thing of the past since king Vidor took controll..You have to pay the vig..not for free.If you recall the council you voted in raised the anti for pkg violations.. every day hoboken needs sweepers running north and south on Washington St?? Transit dosent summons people parked in buss stops and lthe handicap scam is just that. The reformers wanted change and they got it..I even noticed a member of the counsil driving a car..guess he parked the huffy. go green
You’re lucky to have gotten that call. Since I have witnessed people tearing down those signs, and I’m not talking about expired signs, I mean ones that are warning of an upcoming ‘no parking’ event. The lack of a sign might not be because none was posted but because a jerk tore it down.

I believe the few times I asked for a sign it was 72 hours.
Another issue with the moving is the lack of getting the NO PARKING signs up in time. I witnessed a Fire Engine WAIT for a Ford F-450 (one with double-wide rear tires) that was parked illegally on the corner (and had their hazards on) for five minutes last weekend. Finally the Fire Engine truck driver gave up and managed to squeeze by with nary a scrape on the pickup truck.double-wide. Too bad. I was hoping it would have rendered the pickup useless.

jonsie best part is these st trucks are all automatic..God forbid if they were standard shift vehicles..If vehicles are 25 feet from the corners one has to be a space cadet to hit a vehicle making a turn…Just get the number of the truck..call it in to u haul in jersey city..Most these trucks are around 12 feet or less.. They carry one lamp one throwrug a lap top and twin bed..lmaorotf
Gives new meaning to the corner car
