Uptown Rite Aid Lot

It’s been over a year since this entry was updated, so I bumped it today with a fresh Hoboken411 reader mail entry.

“Great site. I read it a couple times a day. I was wondering if you knew the plans for the lot right next to Rite Aid between 13th & 14th streets on Willow. A drilling truck has been parked in the lot for a couple of months now and there are a couple of oil barrels placed next to it. Has Mayor Roberts turned oil tycoon and is hoping he strikes it rich so he can finally have a balanced budget? Here is a picture of the truck. Just wondering if you have any clue what is going on with this lot? I live one block up on 12th and am I just wondering if they are planning on building something or if this is slated to become a park?”

To answer his question, one of the last commenters for this post said: “The project at the corner of 14th and Willow on the site of the former gas station will be 50-60 condos and six stories. The building will come within 5-10 feet of the 14th St curb. I believe the building design is a horseshoe shape opening to Rite-Aid.”

Many people have been asking what the deal is with all the construction and equipment action going on near the 14th and Willow area.

While this isn’t in the Northwest re-development area, nor is it the new “movie theater”, it is planned to be more “luxury condos” (I recall this being approved by the Zoning board last year some time).

What they have to now is the complicated part of environmentally scrubbing the site to meet county and state approval. I’m sure the previous gas station there left it’s mark on the earth. Just walk by to take a whiff. Nasty.

It also seems as if they’re performing some modifications/enhancements to the Rite Aid building, much to our dismay.

How many more luxury condos will it take before Hoboken sinks?

And will require much site remediation to be brought up to NJDEP Residential soil standards.

Post #17 is right on the mark. The old Rite Aid parking lot was chock full of issues, having been built on top of a collapsed building and without adequate drainage. The new lot won’t have the heaves and sinkholes the old one had.

The work would have been completed a lot sooner if the city hadn’t dragged their feet on the required inspections. But that shouldn’t be news to anyone….

A few weeks ago I asked the people working in Rite Aid what was going, and they responded that they were expanding.
