One great thing about the Rail Head: whenever the buses arrive around the PM rush, the drivers back them up and park at the easterly side of the station’s parking lot. Many of the drivers hop out and use the john in the station. Some, however, take advantage of the relative obscurity of the Rail Head and pop in for one or two short ones before commencing their next run. Also, the useless NJ Transit Dispatcher who has his little shack out where the Clinton and Washington #26 buses line up can often be found in the Rail Head. That guy needs some help. His nose is like bag of haggis. Have a soda.

I often wonder what the plans are for this space. But – for the moment – I have a more important concern: what’s “flop sweat”?

There used to be an old bar in this space that was completely dark and the exterior was made of asphault roofing shingles nailed to the walls. This disgusting stench of cigarettes, stale beer, and flop sweat coming out of it was so thick you could drive a nail into it.

Thing was, though, it was always packed. This place? How does it even exist? It must get just enough business to keep its liquor license afloat.

NJ Transit pisses me off. The station is an historic building, and you can see on the outside how this area used to be a nice space with huge windows facing the park. If it still had the least little bit of character, any competant restauranteur could run a decent raw bar there. Instead, it looks like an Orange Julius and even the hard-core drunks seem disregard it.
