Free parking gone from Maxwell Place

Steep fines for parking at Maxwell Place

Update:

Since Maxwell Place is “private” property, they can charge what they want to tow your wheels away. The new signage indicates:

  • $125 tow charge
  • $25 daily storage fee
  • $30 “on site decouple” (I guess the charge if they hook your car, but have yet to tow it away).

This all goes to Mile Square Towing on the NW end of town. Better than Kearny, where all other cars towed in Hoboken will be going!

They caught on, parking party at Maxwell Place is over

For quite a while, there was a great parking spot “secret weapon” that many Hoboken residents took advantage of uptown.

Over near Maxwell Place (between the two buildings) is a center island, which people used as faux street-parking – upwards of 30 spots on a given day. This wasn’t enforced by HPD or anyone for that matter.

But now the game is over. All the cars parked there this past weekend had warnings placed on them: “You are parked in a tow-away zone, vehicles will be towed.”

Also, there has always been a yellow line painted in these spots indicating no parking – it has just been ignored.

I thought streets were public, am I missing something or what?

Well, at least they gave everyone fair waring and didn’t start towing without notice. If it’s private property then those parking there before are now SOL.

@H411-What do you mean when you say cars will be towed to Kearny?! That’s not good

Are these streets within the Maxwell Place complex public or private property? From the pictures there appears to be a lot of much-needed spots that are being taken away. I wish someone would articulate a logical reason why those streets must remain bare of parked cars.

It is private property. I believe that is b/c there were no existing city streets there when the development went up, so they are considered interior roadways of the complex. It’s harder to picture since there are still 2 buildings to go up on Hudson St.

the parking spots along side the buildings are still OK, it’s just the parking along the island that is being done away with. Honestly, it’s probably a good idea. When cars are parked on both sides, it makes for a very narrow lane. since the entrance to the complex on 11th is one way, trucks/ambulances/whatever big vehicles need to go that way bewteen the buildings to get out to Sinatra Dr. Causes issues.
