Vintage DC-3 Flight

If you happen to be in the area of the Hudson River this afternoon, you can catch a glimpse of a vintage DC-3 aircraft flying by.

Hoboken411 correspondent “The Eagle” had a chance to see this restored aircraft from the 30’s and 40’s over at JFK Airport. This is part of the “Flagship Detroit Foundation”, and they had a celebratory BBQ there earlier today. The plane is expected to be boarded at around 4:00pm, and should be seen flying along the Hudson River at or around 4:30pm, conditions permitting. In speaking with the pilot, he asked if the plane will make a nice low fly-by. The pilot responded “It depends what the tower lets me do!”

Here’s a PDF file showing the history of this plane that was the foundation of American Airlines as you know it today.

Mediocre Video:

See this sequence slapped together in 4 minutes. Something went awry with the video editor and cut the captions off. See the mind-blowing ending! Yeah.

I saw this in the sky yesterday. And Hans, I ‘ve also seen that B-17 you mention. It usually flies down the Hudson. Now if it would just have an payload malfunction over the projects.

Nice video… I sat through 2+ minutes of random thoughts on Hoboken, to see a half out of frame/half out of focus fly-by. Great. And was that soundtrack provided by The Cage?

I remember a time last year hearing the sound of a multi-prop plane while I was walking up Wash. It was a deep sound – not a wimpy Cesna or something.

I looked around and finally spotted a B-17 flying south.

But the absolute coolest plane I saw was a B-2 in July 2000. It looked like a line in the sky until it was almost overhead – when it looked like the flagship of Batman Airways.

If only I had a good camera then.
