The calm before Irene in Hoboken

Hoboken waits for Hurricane Irene

An eerie calm with a subtle pinch of panic before Hurricane Irene makes it’s way to Hoboken this afternoon.

Some businesses already closed for the weekend (like the uptown Starbucks – thank God King’s still had coffee!), and others were seen boarding up and taping windows.

Judging by the garbage on the street, you’d think there was already a hurricane – but it’s like that every weekend in the Mile Square.

Be safe everyone, and hunker down between tonight and tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully, at the “aftermath happy hour” people will be able to share survival stories.

@ people in flooded areas – do you see a lot of cars in the flood waters, or were people smart enough to move their cars before they got trashed?

Erie it is. Anticipation (like Heinz 57 Variety catsup).
Mother freakin nature and Irene are playing head games with us. Start stop, start stop.
The inevitable is coming….
Hold you noses everyone and for those that we not smart enough to move their cars to garages (in Hoboken, Newport/Pavonia, or Weekhawken) well that is now new open parking spaces once those cars a totaled. Now why didn’t we think of this sooner when parking became a problem. Perhaps a new strategy once every few years.

Lower Washington Street is utterly festooned with miles of duct tape and plywood. Everyone under 35 is hauling home copious amounts of Budweiser, vodka, and rum.
