Council Meeting: 8/24/2011
Zimmer: Your tax dollars will fund Hoboken “planned parenthood”
Buried deep in the 400+ page resolution pack for today’s Hoboken City Council meeting, is a resolution that the Hoboken Republicans found questionable, considering that it may overstep the governments boundaries concerning moral and ethical rights of many. Read on…
Local Money for Family Planning?
Council to Vote Tonight
“Mayor Dawn Zimmer, in a letter dated yesterday, revealed her administration’s intent to locally fund Hoboken Family Planning. Never heard of them? Think: Planned Parenthood.
Like Planned Parenthood, Hoboken Family Planning is a Title X entity that was recently defunded by Gov. Christie. Now Mayor Zimmer wants to step in with local taxpayer dollars. Pro-life activists across the state have taken notice of Zimmer’s proposal, fearing that other pro-choice mayors will follow suit.
Today, New Jersey Right to Life roundly denounced this proposed use of local taxpayer money. And they are right to do so, for it would compel our city’s pro-lifers and social conservatives to pay for activities they consider immoral.
It seems to us, however, that even pro-choicers might consider this a needless expenditure of municipal resources—particularly in the face of persistently high local taxes. Whether for moral or fiscal reasons, the council should vote down this spending request.”

Hoboken City Council Meeting of August 24, 2011
Another Hoboken City Council meeting tonight. Some quick points:
- If you were to print the resolutions this week – you’d need nearly A REAM of paper (and probably new ink or toner). Wow. Not a good example of an efficient government entity at work.
- Wondering why you didn’t get a tax cut? Instead of capable city employees with modest annual salaries – there are millions in LEGAL CONTRACTS.
- It’s a shame that the city shelled out like $20,000 for advertising important stuff buried in the bowels of the hardly read newspapers. How many potholes can you fix for 20 grand?
Review the meeting documents below and swing back at 7pm for live video stream.

We sure don’t want anyone getting a breast cancer exam.

GOOD! Planned Parenthood is a great organization that provides gynecological services to poor or uninsured – and so many people are without jobs and health insurance. Planned Parenthood can provide exams to people who need them! They also help poor or young people obtain birth control which is important at avoiding unwanted pregnancies. Abortions are rare, Planned Parenthood’s daily services are extremely valuable and caring for the women of our community. Get your heads out of your asses you angry pro-lifers.

Planned Parenthood (or Family Planning in this case) can operate all it wants, just not with my tax money.
Planned Parenthood already gets quite a bit of money from the Federal gov’t. It has also been exposed for questionable practices in the past year or so.

The majority of those ‘pro-lifers’ are decent people who stand on principle and do not want to see women given misleading information about crisis pregnancies. They just want to be heard as much as those who promote the practices of Planned Parenthood.

There are actually “decent people” on both sides of the issue. This is not so much about “crisis pregnancies”, it’s about health care, information on planning and prevention. Fine if you don’t want it to operate with your tax dollars. However, what about all those unplanned pregnancies, your tax dollars will pay for it later, welfare, food stamps, wic!

Planned Parenthood is rarely accused of giving “misleading information.”

Abortions make up a small portion of the benefits provided by the organization. Even the opposition cant argue this absolute fact.
“Pro-life” is an unfair term as well considering it insinuates an opinion propegated as fact: that life begins at conception. It implies that I am not supportive of ‘life’ because I believe a woman should have a choice and my refusal to believe the process of cells potentially replicating in the POSSIBLE formation of life can be considered a human being.
“Pro-no choice” makes more sense.

Most people like the saying, “one bad apple spoils the bunch”. Reading your links it looks like several attempts were made to compromise planned parenthood workers and only one did. She is the bad apple.
There is Welsh saying I like, “Y mae taten ddrwg ym mhob sach. (There is a bad potato in every sack.)” Humans being humans every group has that bad potato in the sack somewhere. The anti-abortion groups have the bad potatoes that blow up clinics. No group wants to be judged solely on the actions of the bad potatoes in their midst.
Can you site some specifics on this accusation of ‘misleading information’.

sillybunny – I find your comment about ‘pro-lifers’ having to ‘get their heads out of their asses’ offensive. That’s why I said that most pro-lifers are decent people. And more and more young people are standing up for life and are not believing the lies the places like planned parenthood are promoting.
Unfortunately, the mainstream media will never report on the pro-life movement in any reasonable way. The latest march for life that happened in January had about 300, 000 people attend and most of them were young people.
As for citing examples of misleading information given by Planned Parenthood, please take a look at that book written by a former employee, Abby Johnson. She talks about how those running PP teaching their employees about how to talk to women about abortions.

And yes, I know I’ll be jumped on for focusing solely on abortion. But PP makes most of their money by performing abortions. And why should my tax money be supporting an organization that promotes them? PP gets enough money from the Federal Gov’t. And that money from the feds is ALSO my tax money and yours. So why should more of my money be sent to the organization?
I’d rather send my money to another organization that helps women (with routine exams AND crises pregnancies) and is more in line with my values.

The book is interesting and written much like books by people that are born again after spending some time dabbling in witchcraft. Their current beliefs color their past experiences.
Do you have any facts as opposed to anecdotal stories?

Instead of using our local tax dollars, the gutless Wonderette (Zimmer) should be demanding that her fat cohort in Trenton restore the funds that he cut from this program. Instead of clapping like a trained monkey whenever she’s near him, she should demand that our State tax dollars be returned to Hoboken and used for Family Planning. Rather she let’s the Governor bully her and expects us to pick up the tab. The wealth in Hoboken means that we send lots and lots of money to Trenton. She should be fighting to get some of it back.

I’m always amused when proponents of PP make the argument its about women’s health. No less than PP’s president Cecile Richards was even caught lying on national television that if the budget cuts were to happen, then women wouldn’t get mammograms. Laughable were it not demonstrably criminal and hypocritical. youtube.com/watch?v=aq0kBkUZbvQ&feature=player_embedded

I object to the government using my tax money to fund Planned Parenthood; the government should rescind all tax exemptions on the church and use their tax money to fund planned parenthood instead.
