Hoboken Fire Rescue Boat

Does the Hoboken Fire Rescue Boat make you feel safe?

I enjoy watching the Hoboken Fire Department take their “Marine One” rescue boat out for training runs from time to time. A fun little treat to observe while soaking up the riverfront views.

However, a few residents have mentioned recently that they don’t understand why Hoboken even has a marine unit, when the Hudson River is solely under NYPD’s jurisdiction. I told them that in order to have the quickest possible response time, it’s in our best interest to keep this intact.

Do you agree or disagree?

As someone who’s worked and volunteered in Emergency Services for over 8 years I think I may be able to shed some light on this.

When an Emergency Service Organization, EMS or FD in this case, demonstrates a certain level of response capability and/or skill, for instance high angle rescue, hazmat, water rescue, etc. it usually qualifies for additional funding at a state and/or federal level to pay for those services. It’s highly possible that in this case, the Hoboken FD Rescue Boat is paid with by funding from some other level than local because they have maritime rescue capabilities.

I doubt they bought it with tax dollars just to have a weekend fishing trip.

It would make more sense to utilize the North Hudson Regional Fire Boat.

Hoboken doesn’t needs its own fire boat, and this small boat isn’t even a real fire boat. It’s more of a pleasure craft. Donated or not, it’s not very functional.

Where was it when the plane and helicopter crashed by Stevens over te Hudson River or when Sully made the water landing… Or any of the Hoboken pier jumpers?

lobster stampler and sunnybrook farms wisen up step back and look at the big picture..May I ask if you all wash your undies with fiber glass curtains? Is that craft a serious topic in light of what is going on in Hobokens Bars on weekends and the chit that is being delt with? Your worried about a craft that may be helpfull if anyone close to the dock pier had a mishap. On 911 our PD and FD EMS assisted injured coming accoss the river. Not about the fire boat more than being oblivious to the 3billion in aid sent to mideastern countries including isreal ,pakstain, and so many others while you pay the freight..your tax dollars our kids getting killed and a fire boat is a problem..shame brave kids have to defend breast fed spoon fed whiners…that should praise the Lord for each day instead of jerkey crap.. 😡
It would make more sense to utilize the North Hudson Regional Fire Boat.Hoboken doesn’t needs its own fire boat, and this small boat isn’t even a real fire boat. Fuel cost, Salaries of several “Boaters” and every day usefulness = Complete waste.

Whether the volunteer boat was donated or otherwise is irreleveant. The existence of such a vessel guarantees the HFD another $100K+ union job for doing absolutely nothing!! Even if there ever was a fire near the water, this POS boat could do absolutely nothing benefecial that a regular hoboken fire truck which is minutes away could do.

Just another useful method of spending money on non critical jobs…..What about a 24/7 Pothole Crew or making use of more Police Officers at NIGHT ( downtown near the trouble areas ) instead of having a overabundance of them around during the day or DWI checks Thurs. – Sat. to get in/out of town?

Having kept a boat in the shipyard marina and witnessed Hoboken marine one in action. I would suggest one thing if you are indeed in need of a rescue. Pray for a miracle or let New York harbor patrol handle your rescue. If the closest boat was on the other side of Staten Island (approx 30min by sea) its response time would still be quicker than Hoboken Marine One I’d put money on it. I’m not sure how this boat ever got into the budget but I smell a fish.
Just another useful method of spending money on non critical jobs…..What about a 24/7 Pothole Crew or making use of more Police Officers at NIGHT ( downtown near the trouble areas ) instead of having a overabundance of them around during the day or DWI checks Thurs. – Sat. to get in/out of town?
hobo 92 pothole crew is the countys job..hpd has to deal with the jerkoffs that all become boxers after the bars close..one good move is to shut down mickey d’s after 3am.. The spa could use the swat team after 3am as well. We can blaim it all on george bush.
Having kept a boat in the shipyard marina and witnessed Hoboken marine one in action. Wisky – It just shows fiscal irresponsibility on ALL levels of this town. Bars are another complete story which MUST be addressed immediately.

LOBSTER GIRL Not sure but think fire boat was donated or loaned out to the HFD.In a way that boat may be an asset to people in distress close by. You cannot have an increase of police officers day or night if your leader is against it..You deal with it and then when you vote give some tought to the situation.. in may or november.DWI checks may save your life lobster girl..Another story altogether..Remember click it or ticket.. 😯
