Shrinking products – a hidden cost increase!

Who says the economy is getting better?

I was at Jerry’s Uptown Bagels the other day – and became miffed at this sight. It seems that companies out there – instead of selling the same products at a higher cost, are using the ‘ol “Shrink Ray Gun” instead.

They must think that – if they sell a product, like this Tropicana Orange Juice – in a familiar box, and keep the price consistent – that no one will notice that they give you 12.5% less product inside. That’s the equivalent of a 14.3% price increase per ounce! How long can they keep this racket up?

It’s not only in the food area that this sneaky downsizing is being done. I just bought some paint,I though that I was buying a gallon but it is less something like 15/16’s of a gallon. SNEAKY BASTARDS

The last time I went up to hoboken it was for visit to failla’s or is it now McKnights. I got a call one day in the 60’s some guys drove a truck to the shaefers brewery in brooklyn and drank too much of the free beer. 2 of us drove over and loaded the drunks into the car and I had to drive the truck back.
The old timers are dropping like flys, I went to boo boo’s funeral, no more wake or funerals for me I don’t want the grim reaper chasing me.
68 are you in the shore area? all kidding aside with moosh just trading barbs..The shoprite in that area of barnaget lacy stafford stores /open a cerial box take a look inside..ounces? take a look at coffee cans.Use to be lb now 11 ounces..sign of the times..like to hook up with you..Ask sibby if you have his number about the co worker that took down a wall with a trailer on the korvettes job in the 70′s..What a bunch of mixed nut megs..no name dropping but so many guys from st joes and the buddies have passed..on..reciently eddie lanzillo and dave milne..Are you in hoboken?? It’s nice to have some fun around here. The whole blaming dogs for peoples’ misery is getting old. That is all.
68 are you in the shore area? all kidding aside with moosh just trading barbs..The shoprite in that area of barnaget lacy stafford stores /open a cerial box take a look inside..ounces? take a look at coffee cans.Use to be lb now 11 ounces..sign of the times..like to hook up with you..Ask sibby if you have his number about the co worker that took down a wall with a trailer on the korvettes job in the 70′s..What a bunch of mixed nut megs..no name dropping but so many guys from st joes and the buddies have passed..on..reciently eddie lanzillo and dave milne..Are you in hoboken?? mooshu.Dogs are more loyal that people..Not disputing you and lets put barbs on hold ..My sister owns a female black Lab..She is almost 2years old. big house and back yard and near gold course..She runs all around and retrieves items..Other son owns a yourkie sorry if typo..Big dogs belong in a rural area and not confined in an apt..Its a pity that some in the shipyard and toll bldg keept these free sprit animals for pets when they in fact belong to run around in areas.Of course owners clean up after them..There are no dog walkers that I can see in the town of waretown in this complex or any other nearby town…It is unfair to the animals..sorry if you disagre 😛
It’s nice to have some fun around here. I don’t have a big dog, but there’s no problem about a big dog living in an apartment so long as it’s getting ample exercise. Dogs go confined in rural areas, too, by lazy owners or people who lack foresight– I’ve seen it, and they’re not getting a good amount of exercise in a backyard necessarily.

Dogs have legs and need to stretch them out and enjoy some space, fresh air and exercise. All of this is available in a city like Hoboken, it just depends on what time of day you walk a dog, how often, where, and for how long. Ownership of one is a big responsibility, whether one lives in a rural area or not. Just my 2 cents :).
mooshu.Dogs are more loyal that people..Not disputing you and lets put barbs on hold ..My sister owns a female black Lab..She is almost 2years old. big house and back yard and near gold course..She runs all around and retrieves items..Other son owns a yourkie sorry if typo..Big dogs belong in a rural area and not confined in an apt..Its a pity that some in the shipyard and toll bldg keept these free sprit animals for pets when they in fact belong to run around in areas.Of course owners clean up after them..There are no dog walkers that I can see in the town of waretown in this complex or any other nearby town…It is unfair to the animals..sorry if you disagre
moosh your two cents is your call..Understand that dogs do not deseve to be confined in an apt condo or what ever..free spirited animals nahhh..My sisters lab enjoys back yard in a nice area ..there is no comparrision btn this clusterF###k city and fields to romp in..They pick up the crap there as well..Dogs were not ment to be confined in a chit ass apt or condo ..unless you have a back yard..Only a few months ago police had to shoot two pit bulls or rot weliers which do not belong around children..Again when I see a dog the size of a water buffalo I wonder where this owners head is.some what like a sheepdog u can also argue the point but cruel inhuman to say the least..Where I will reside dogs are not confined and do not need dog walkers..As I say your two cents and your call..
I don’t have a big dog, but there’s no problem about a big dog living in an apartment so long as it’s getting ample exercise. Do the containers appear smaller as well?

Food companies are cutting back on expenses by shrinking the sizes of whatever they use for packaging. Plastic in particular is more expensive hence shrinking bottles and caps, yet some companies are claiming that they’re doing something “green” to help save the planet or whatever.

I follow this trend on another site and the companies tend to employ the false bottom or big indent bottom regularly. Package looks the same but lacks a few ounces. Another method is making the bottle slightly thinner, but taller…minus the few ounces. Scotts toilet paper rolls became shorter width wise…still feel like the old ones but they have less. Look closely at beer labels, some have gone from 12oz to 11.2

Anytime you see “New Look” or “Improved!” on the label, you should immediately look at the weight/volume because they only improved their bottom line.
Do the containers appear smaller as well?Food companies are cutting back on expenses by shrinking the sizes of whatever they use for packaging. a pint or half gallon of ice cream disappeared years ago. A “pint” in now 14oz and a “half gallon” is now 1.75 quarts.

The Grocery Shrink Ray as the Consumerist calls it is a cruel mistress.

The Tropicana shrink happened about 2 years ago when they did that disastrous package redesign that they eventually dropped a few months later. Around the same time Hagen Daaz dropped their “pint” to 14oz as well.

I no longer buy either brand.
