Hoboken Police & Fire Blotter: 7/16/2011
Hoboken crime and fire action: July 16, 2011
An ongoing list of various noteworthy incidents, crimes and fire-calls throughout the day for Saturday July 16, 2011. This post may be updated and “bumped” periodically.
Crimes, Incidents, Fire Calls & Vehicular mishaps
- 1:10am (7/17/2011): Late night fight
Ding ding! It’s that time again… Fight at the Spa Diner downtown.
- 11:00pm: Hoboken Police Under-staffed
Despite what residents are led to believe from the morons at City Hall, the Hoboken Police Department is currently under-staffed. Many officers recently have been asked to work double-shifts this summer. Additionally, the “money saved” by reducing the size of the police force, has actually cost taxpayers MORE in overtime. This is 100% FACT.
- 10:00pm: Suspicious “clipboard man”
Residents from 1121 Jefferson contacted Hoboken PD because a suspicious white male (black pants, white t-shirt) was carrying a clipboard and going apartment to apartment knocking on doors. What business requiring a clipboard is necessary at 10pm on a Saturday night? If this is the guy’s “cover” to check for unlocked apartments to rob later, it’s pretty damn bad.
- 7:54pm: Shoprite “drunk drunk” sale
Hoboken PD and EMS are tending to a very intoxicated person outside of the ShopRite supermarket. Hey, I just invented a new game! Hoboken Drunken Roulette! I’ll make a wheel with all the different spots these guys end up needing medical attention – and you place your bets! Of course, there is no wheel, and no roulette ball. You just place your bets, and the next report of a drunk is the “virtual ball.” (Maybe this game was a bad idea – I’ll have to revise it… maybe “Drunk Pool” or something similar).
- 5:45pm: Car wrecked due to missing manhole cover
For the past few days, the city has been having issues with a missing manhole cover at 15th & Washington near the Hudson Tea Building. Today, a car drove over this hole, and suffered significant vehicular damage. Sniff, sniff… do I smell lawsuit?
Update: It was a brand-spanking new BMW with temporary plates. Bummer!
- 5:40pm: Child injured at park
A child fell off a piece of playground equipment over at Pier C Park and broke his ankle, Hoboken EMS dispatched. Boy that park is a mess. Why didn’t they just make a regular grass field?
- 11:55am: Truck on the loose!
A Mitsubishi delivery truck parked near 1 Newark St. apparently forgot to engage the parking break, and the vehicle rolled away, striking two parked cars. I hearby dub this incident “Hoboken Corner Crash.”
More to come later…
