Why is Mickey D’s such a trouble spot?

Hoboken’s only fast food restaurant a magnet for trouble!

Almost every single weekend in Hoboken, the 24-hour McDonald’s seems to have some issue. Whether it’s ridiculous fights, or anger-filled mutton-heads destroying property. Like last weekend, some buffoon smashed the exterior windows with milk crates.

What do you think the cause of such violence is? Not every single Hoboken late-night eatery suffers the same (with exception of maybe the Spa Diner)

It can’t be purely related to simple alcohol consumption, could it?

There are always homeless and other unwashed in there and just outside, hanging out. It is one block from the shelter and 3 blocks from the hospital. There is are McD’s in 2 bad areas in Brooklyn where I used to work: Atlantic/Ralph and Gates/Broadway, and in each case, the McD stood out as an oasis of at-least-half decency. In Hoboken, it is the exact reverse: a magnet for people who require human compassion but are not the first choice for dinner neighbors.

Stop blaming the homeless. About 6 months ago, I was walking by with a friend and a guy that was drunk pushed another guy that was also drunk, right into the window, and my friend called the cops. The window was broken. It was around 2 in the morning and cold and there was no one else around.
There are always homeless and other unwashed in there and just outside, hanging out. Most likely a combination of factors 1] it’s 24/7 operation attracts many who have used alcohol and premises are open after bars close 2.] it’s proximity to shelter causes a excessive loitering because the homeless have lots of idle time and they are shut out at certain hours especially after nite closing time. Perhaps, an well trained armed security guard after midnite working in coordination with PD patrols can improve the protection in this general area. 3]Additionally, youths seem to also loiter in the area.

Another combat arena is the Spa…after 1am…Most of these combatants are from out of town..They would think twice before getting silly in their home towns. The malibu is a close third..Lucky the police station is a block away.. 😛
Most likely a combination of factors 1] it’s 24/7 operation attracts many who have used alcohol and premises are open after bars close 2.] it’s proximity to shelter causes a excessive loitering because the homeless have lots of idle time and they are shut out at certain hours especially after nite closing time. hans agreed..But! mac’s closed at midnight..at one time..then at 4am..now 24/7.. but again..most revelers who wreck the food places are mostly from out of town. This town is only a mile square and a quarter..Almost as big or slightly smaller than Central Park..Baltimore Cleaveland detroit .Not to nice but, again how many come from out of the district such as the ones who come here to eat drink and get silly..We need a burger king to even it out.. 😆
It seems like McDonalds, and some other FF places, everywhere are like bug lights attracting society’s most dysfunctional.A few minutes of googling can turn up plenty of videos from around the country which will attest.A Baltimore McDonalds had a particularly noteworthy incident recently. Makes the Hoboken crowd seem tame.
Those who live in the shelter must be out at 6am and back around same time. They are fed at a certain time and i believe may be tested for aids and urine is checked for controlled substince. Many of these souls recieve ssi and maybe a portion is deducted by the Shelter. To pervent these people from hanging out in mc/ donalds,is up to the owner or manager..The place went from closing at 4am to 24/7 to accommodate the revelers after the bars close..Whos fault is that?.Parents use to rent the play area and have birthday partys for their kids..Not any more. It’s a combination of both..Anyone who works the night shift should recieve combat pay instead of minimum wage. There use to be police detailed at mac’s closing time, but since its 24/7 there running around elsewhere responding to all after hour revelers…That is up to the town fathers to close the place at a resonable hour.. 😐

Whiskey, get your facts stray. The shelter DOES not take a portion of the SSI or welfare. They strongly encourage them to save there money that they get, whether is SSI, Welfare or from employment (Yes, 30% of homeless people do work) so in the event the shelter gets them an apartment, they have the money for security and rent.
If you want to learn more about the shelter, the way is run and there programs, maybe you should stop by or call the director.
Those who live in the shelter must be out at 6am and back around same time. They are fed at a certain time and i believe may be tested for aids and urine is checked for controlled substince. This really isn’t that hard to figure out. Poor people are more likely to gravitate toward the cheapest food. Poor people are also more likely to commit petty crimes. Rich people go to more expensive restaurants (and commit white collar crimes). You don’t see a lot of fights and vandalism at Amanda’s or Anthony David’s now, do you?
